This study empirically examines the impact of social innovation activities on responses to regional extinction by focusing on B Corp-certified fourth sector enterprises in Asia and Europe. Utilizing sub-indices of social innovation derived from the B Impact Score— including community engagement, employee engagement, customer engagement, governance, and environmental efforts—the study conducts both ordinary least squares and quantile regression analyses to quantitatively assess the relationship between social innovation and regional extinction response. The findings reveal that European B Corp enterprises exhibit statistically significant positive effects in community, employee, and governance domains, with stronger effects observed at higher quantiles of the regional extinction index. This suggests that European social enterprises are effectively enhancing regional resilience through collaboration with local communities, employee participation, and transparent governance. In contrast, the models for Asia show lower explanatory power, with some variables either insignificant or negatively associated with regional extinction response, indicating that social innovation activities may not be effectively connected to regional revitalization efforts in these contexts. Notably, quantile regression results demonstrate that customer and environmental engagement in high-risk Asian regions are negatively associated with the regional extinction index, implying that such efforts may not contribute positively to community resilience. These findings may reflect a structural disconnect between corporate social responsibility and regional issues in Asia or institutional immaturity. Based on these empirical differences, the study offers theoretical and practical implications, emphasizing the need to consider national institutional environments, the maturity of social innovation ecosystems, and mechanisms for corporate engagement with local communities when addressing the structural crisis of regional extinction.

본 연구는 아시아와 유럽의 B Corp 인증 제4섹터 기업을 대상으로, 사회적 혁신 활동이 지역소멸 대응에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하 였다. 지역공동체 사회적 혁신, 기업 구성원 사회적 혁신, 고객 사회적 혁신, 거버넌스 사회적 혁신, 환경 사회적 혁신 등 B Impact Score 기반의 사회적 혁신 하위 요인을 중심으로 아시아와 유럽의 단위의 사회적 혁신 요인과 지방소멸 대응 간의 관계를 OLS 회귀분석과 분위수 회귀분석 을 병행 적용하여 정량적으로 평가하였다. 연구 결과, 유럽의 B Corp 기업은 지역공동체, 기업 구성원, 거버넌스 항목에서 지방소멸 대응에 유 의한 정의 영향을 보였으며, 특히 분위수 분석에서는 지방소멸 대응지수가 높을 수록 사회적 혁신 활동의 효과가 더 강하게 나타나는 경향이 확인되었다. 이는 유럽의 사회적 기업들이 지역 공동체와의 연계, 구성원의 사회적 참여, 투명한 지배구조 등을 통해 실질적인 지역 회복 탄력 성을 제고하고 있음을 시사한다. 반면, 아시아 지역의 경우 전체 모형의 설명력이 낮고, 일부 항목은 부정적인 영향을 미치거나 유의하지 않은 것으로 나타나, 사회적 혁신 활동이 지역소멸 대응에 효과적으로 연결되지 못하고 있음을 보여준다. 마찬가지로 분위 회귀 분석 결과에서도 아 시아의 고객과 친환경 항목은 지방소멸 고위험 지역에서 통계적으로 부정적 영향을 미쳤는데, 이는 소비자 참여 및 친환경 활동이 오히려 지역 사회 기반 회복력에 긍정적 기여를 하지 못하고 있음을 암시한다. 이는 아시아 국가에서 기업의 사회적 책임 활동이 지역 문제와 구조적으로 연계되지 못하고 있거나, 제도적 기반이 취약함을 의미할 수 있다. 이러한 실증적 차이를 바탕으로 지역소멸이라는 구조적 위기에 대응하기 위 해, 국가별 제도 환경, 사회적 혁신 생태계의 성숙도, 그리고 기업의 지역사회 연계 메커니즘을 함께 고려해야 하는 이론적 및 실천적 시사점을 제시하였다.
