This study investigated the effects of model statement techniques and detail types on lie detection. In Study 1 (n=59), participants listened to a secret meeting recording and made true or false statements before and after exposure to either a model statement or memory enhancement method. Those who received the model statement reported more details in their second statement than in their first statement, with truth-tellers produced more core details and liars produced more peripheral ones. Study 2 (n=32) used videos from Study 1 to compare lie detection rates between participants trained in detail analysis and those untrained. Results showed that training in detail analysis significantly improved lie detection accuracy when evaluating statements from individuals who had received the model statement.
