This research analyzes how Daesoon Jinrihoe‘s Sangsaeng ideology is embodied as public practice across ideological, organizational, and practical dimensions, examining both its significance and structural limitations. In contemporary society, religions are expected to function as public actors contributing to social integration and peacebuilding beyond private faith. Daesoon Jinrihoe has institutionalized its Sangsaeng ideology-comprising Haewon-sangsaeng (Resolution of Grievances for Mutual Beneficence) and Boeun-sangsaeng (Grateful Reciprocation of Favors for Mutual Beneficence)- through systematic social projects, establishing a distinctive model of religious publicness. This research posits that religious publicness emerges through three criteria: universal ethics (ideological), democratic participation (organizational), and substantive social contribution (practical). Through qualitative analysis of canonical texts, official documents, academic materials, and media reports, this study examines how Daesoon Jinrihoe fulfills these criteria. The findings reveal that Sangsaeng ideology connects with modern peace studies: Haewon-sangsaeng functions as conflict transformation ethics, while Boeun-sangsaeng promotes harmony and solidarity. Daesoon Jinrihoe‘s public practices unfold through individual cultivation, institutional social services, and regional community activities. However, structural limitations emerged: insufficient communication and public discourse formation (ideological), governance weakness and restricted democratic participation (organizational), and limited activity scope with inadequate outcome visibility (practical). This research aims to advance academic discourse on religious peacebuilding through integrated analysis and peace-ethical reinterpretation of Sangsaeng ideology.

본 연구에서는 대순진리회 상생이념이 공공성 실천으로 구현되는 과정을 이념, 조직, 실천 의 다층적 차원에서 분석하고, 그 의의와 구조적 한계를 규명하고자 한다. 현대 사회에서 종교 는 사적 신앙을 넘어 사회 통합과 평화 구축에 기여하는 공적 주체로서 책임을 요구받는다. 이 러한 맥락에서 대순진리회는 해원상생과 보은상생의 상생이념을 토대로 이를 조직적으로 제 도화하고 사회사업을 통해 실천하면서 독자적인 공공성 모델을 구축해 왔다. 본 연구는 종교의 공공성이 보편 윤리성(이념적 차원), 민주적 참여성(조직적 차원), 실질적 사회 기여(실천적 차 원)라는 세 기준을 통해 형성된다고 보고, 대순진리회가 이러한 기준들을 어떻게 충족하여 공 공성을 실천하고 있는지 검토한다. 이를 위해 교단 경전과 공식 문헌, 학술 자료, 언론 보도 등 1･2차 문헌을 분석하여 각 차원의 실천 양상과 한계를 체계적으로 고찰하였다. 대순진리회의 종교 실천은 해원상생과 보은상생의 상생이념에 기반한다. 해원상생은 갈등 해소의 윤리로, 보은상생은 조화와 연대의 윤리로 작용하며, 이는 상호의존적 자각과 사회연 대를 지향하는 현대 평화학의 보편 윤리와도 연결된다. 대순진리회의 공공성 실천은 개인의 종 교 수행, 종단의 제도적 사회사업, 지역 방면 활동을 통해 다층적 실천이 전개되고 있다. 그러나 실천 과정에서 몇 가지 구조적 한계가 확인되었다. 이념적 측면에서 대내외 소통과 사회적 담론 형성이 부족하고, 조직적 측면에서 거버넌스의 취약성과 민주적 의사결정 참여의 제약이 있으며, 실천적 측면에서는 활동 범위의 일부 편중과 성과 가시화 부족이 확인되었다. 이에 본 연구는 이념-조직-실천의 통합적 분석과 상생이념의 평화학적 재해석 연구를 통해 종 교 이념의 실천화 과정을 구체적으로 규명하고, 종교의 사회평화 담론 구축에 관한 학술적 논 의를 심화하는 데 기여하고자 한다.
