This study analyzes literature on the political socialization of immigrant-background adolescents in North America and Europe to draw implications for multicultural Korean society. It first reviews the key features of traditional political socialization theories and examines how international migration challenges and reshapes these frameworks. The study then explores recent discussions in the field surrounding the bidirectional political socialization process within immigrant-background families, ethnic socialization, the compensation and diffusion effects of school-based civic education, and macro-level institutional conditions. Based on these discussions, it suggests academic and policy implications for better understanding the political socialization of immigrant-background adolescent in Korea and proposes directions for future research.

본 연구는 북미나 유럽에서 규명되어 온 이주배경 청소년의 정치 사 회화 연구들에 대한 문헌분석을 통해 한국 다문화 사회에의 함의를 도 출한다. 이를 위해 우선 전통적 정치 사회화 이론의 특징에 대해 살펴 보고, 국제 이주의 맥락이 전통적 정치 사회화 이론에 어떠한 변형을 요구하는지에 대해 논한다. 다음으로 최근 이주배경 청소년 관련 연구 에서 주목받는 가정 내 쌍방향 정치 사회화, 민족 사회화, 학교 시민교 육의 보상효과와 확산효과, 거시적 제도 조건 등의 논의를 검토한다. 마지막으로 한국 이주배경 청소년의 정치 사회화 관련 연구에의 학술 적·정책적 시사점을 도출하고 후속 연구를 제안한다.
