This study aimed to investigate college students' usage characteristics related to the use of generative AI. A survey was conducted among students to examine variables such as frequency of use, user competency, perceived contribution to learning, ease of use, psychological anxiety, and ethical considerations related to generative AI. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, and correlation analyses. The findings revealed that, first, students reported a relatively high frequency of generative AI tool usage, competency, contribution to learning, and ease of use evaluated at above-average levels. Second, significant differences were found in certain variables according to demographic characteristics(gender, grade, major). Male students demonstrated higher levels of AI-related competency than female students; upper-year students perceived greater learning contribution and ease of use compared to lower-year students; and students in STEM fields showed higher competency, learning contribution, and ease of use than those in humanities and social sciences. Third, statistically significant correlations were observed between frequency of generative AI use and variables such as competency, perceived learning contribution, and ethical considerations. These findings suggest the need to establish educational strategies and learning environments that support the effective use of generative AI tools, tailored to students’ demographic backgrounds.

본 연구는 대학생들의 생성형 AI 활용 특성을 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 수도권 소재 A대학교 재학생을 대상으로 생성형 AI 활용 빈도, 활용 역량, 학습기여도, 사용용이성, 심리적 불안감, 윤리적 측면 등을 설문조사를 통해 파악하였다. 수집된 데이터는 기술통계, 독립표본 t-검정, 상관분석 등의 방법으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 첫째, 대학생들의 생성형 AI 활용빈도는 비교적 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 활용 역량, 학습기여도, 사용용이성은 보통 수준 이상의 값을 보였다. 둘째, 성별, 학년, 전공계열과 같은 인구통계학적 특성에 따른 유의한 차이는 부분적으로 존재하였다. 남학생이 여학생에 비해 생성형 AI 활용역량이, 고학년이 저학년에 비해 생성형 AI 학습기여도, 사용용이성이, 이공계열 학생이 인문사회계열 학생에 비해 생성형 AI 활용역량, 생성형 AI 학습기여도, 사용용이성이 높게 나타났다. 셋째, 생성형 AI 활용 빈도와 생성형 AI 활용역량, 생성형 AI 학습기여도, 생성형 AI 활용의 윤리적 측면 간에 통계적으로 유의한 상관관계가 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 성별, 학년, 전공계열의 특성에 따른 생성형 AI도구를 효율적으로 활용할 수 있는 교육과 환경을 조성할 필요가 있음을 시사한다.
