This study develops the Productivity News Sentiment Index (PNSI) based on ten years of Korean news text data from 2015 to 2024 and validates its utility as an economic indicator. To construct the PNSI, a hybrid sentiment analysis model combining the Sentiment Lexicon and BERT was developed. Reflecting the structural characteristics of productivity, news sentiment was measured through a dual- index system consisting of Labor Input and Output indices. The analysis reveals that the PNSI has a strong positive correlation (0.64) with the Manufacturing Labor Productivity Index. In particular, the Output Index (NSI-output) demonstrated a statistically significant lead time of 1 to 2 months or quarters over real economic indicators. The predictive performance of the PNSI was also validated, achieving a high level of accuracy with an out-of-sample RMSE of 2.3. In conclusion, the PNSI serves as a real-time leading indicator that complements the time lags of traditional statistics, providing essential foundational data for early detection of economic shifts and the design of preemptive policy responses.

본 연구는 2015년부터 2024년까지 10년간의 국내 뉴스 텍스트 데이터를 바탕으로 KNU 감성사전과 BERT를 결합한 하이브리드 감성분석 모델을 구축하여 생산성 뉴스심리지수(PNSI)를 개발하고 그 유용성을 검증하였다. PNSI 개발을 위해 생산성 감성사전과 BERT를 결합한 하이브리드 감성분석 모델을 구축하였고, 생산성 산출구조를 반영하여 뉴스 감성을 노동투입(Input)과 산출(Output) 지수로 이원화하여 측정했다. 분석 결과, PNSI는 제조업 노 동생산성지수와 높은 상관관계(0.64)를 보였으며, 특히 산출 지수(NSI-output)는 실물지표에 대해 1~2개월/분기의 유의미한 선행성을 나타냈다. 또한 뉴스 감성이 단기적으로는 기대 과잉에 따른 조정 효과를, 중기적으로는 실물경 제 성장을 견인하는 구조적 패턴을 확인하였으며, 예측 모델에서도 우수한 성능(표본 외 RMSE 2.3)을 입증하였다. 결론적으로 PNSI는 전통적 지표의 시차를 보완하는 실시간 선행지표로서, 경제 변화의 조기 탐지와 정책당국의 선 제적 대응 체계 구축을 위한 핵심 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있다.
