This study analyzes the relationship between the personality types of college students with diverse tendencies and their color associations. For college students, the choice of color is a very important means of expressing latent thoughts and emotions. Colors influence human psychology and emotions, and are particularly relevant to adolescent development. Although it has been revealed that there is a significant correlation between color and personality, and research on color psychology is becoming more important, it is true that there is a lack of research on various personality types. Among these, this study identified the need for color research based on the diverse personality types of college students, which not only poses individual challenges but also poses social and psychological challenges. Therefore, a personality type survey was conducted on male and female college students to identify their various personality types and analyze the associated colors based on the categorized personality types. Moreover, it was investigated the correlation between the main characteristics of the Enneagram QUEST, a personality type diagnostic tool, and colors that can be associated with personality, focusing on the relationship between color-associative images and personality types, so that college students who experience physical, psychological, and cognitive stress in the face of pressing realities can maintain a healthy mental state and use it as a useful reference for career counseling and self-reflection. The results of a survey using Riso & Hudson's Enneagram QUEST to determine which of the 15 basic colors is most appealing, based on the 6 personality types are as follows: In the case of Enneagram QUEST personality type A, which is described as a personality type of ‘aggressive style’, colors with high level of attractiveness and visibility for warm colors were chosen frequently and consistently in the order of red, yellow, orange, and blue in the color symbol response. In the case of Enneagram QUEST personality type B, which is the ‘withdrawn’ personality type, in the color symbol response, colors with relatively medium brightness/saturation in the cool color series such as purple, navy, gray, blue, and black were chosen frequently and consistently. In the case of Enneagram QUEST personality type C, which is described as a ‘conforming type’, in the color symbol response, turquoise and blue, red and green, and yellow in that order were chosen. In the case of Enneagram QUEST personality X, which is the personality type of ‘positive attitude’, in the color symbol response, purple, violet, red and blue, indigo, and black in that order were chosen. In the case of Enneagram QUEST personality Y, which is described as a type of "reactive attitude," in the color symbol response, purple, violet, red and blue, navy, and black in that order were chosen. Finally, in the case of Enneagram QUEST personality Z, which is described as a type of "competent attitude," in the color symbol response, black, white, navy, gray, and blue in that order were chosen. The analysis results showed that college students had differences in color preferences based on gender, and that there was a correlation between personality type and color preferences. The above results suggest that there is a significant relationship between color preferences according to college students' personality types, and that college students' preferred colors can be used as basic data for interpreting and predicting college students' psychological, social, and cognitive stress experience behaviors. This study has high academic significance in that it applied the associative image of color to personality diagnosis, and it is expected to make a great contribution in that it showed the possibility of exploring one's self and understanding others through an intuitive method in diagnosing personality types.

본 논문은 다양한 성향을 보이는 대학생의 성격유형 과 그에 따른 색채 연상과의 관계를 분석 연구한 내용 이다. 대학생에게 있어 색채의 선택은 잠재된 생각과 감정을 표현하는 매우 중요한 수단이다. 색채는 인간의 심리와 정서에 영향을 미치며 특히, 청년기 발달에 상 당한 관련성을 지니고 있다. 색채와 성격 사이에 유의 미한 관련성이 있다는 사실이 밝혀지고 색채심리에 관 한 연구가 중요시되고 있지만, 다양한 성격에 관한 연 구가 부족한 것이 사실이다. 그중에서도 본 연구는 개 개인의 문제일 뿐 아니라, 사회적 심리적. 문제이기도 한 대학생의 다양한 성격유형에 따른 색채연구가 필요 하다고 보고 남녀 대학생들을 대상으로 성격유형 조사 를 실시하여, 다양한 성격유형을 알아보고 분류된 성격 에 따라 연상하는 색을 조사하여 분석하였다. 무엇보다 급박한 현실에 신체적, 심리적, 인지적 스트레스를 경 험하게 되는 대학생이 건강한 정신 상태를 유지하고 진 로상담 및 자아 성찰에 유용한 참조자료로 활용할 수 있도록 성격유형 진단 도구인 에니어그램 QUEST의 주 요 특성과 색채 연상과의 관계를 중심으로 성격을 연상 할 수 있는 색채와의 상관관계를 조사하였다. 이에 리 소(Riso) & 허드슨(Hudson)의 에니어그램 (Enneagram) QUEST 6가지 성격유형이 15가지의 기 본색의 어떤 색으로 답할 수 있는지 설문한 결과는 다 음과 같다. 성격 A는 ’공격하는 성향‘으로 색채 연상에 서 빨강, 노랑, 주황, 파랑의 순으로 난색 계열의 주목 성 및 시인성이 높은 색이 많이 선택되었다. 성격 B는 ’움츠리는 성향‘으로 색채 연상에서 보라, 남색, 회색, 파랑, 검정의 한색 계열의 명/채도가 비교적 중간값을 갖는 색이 많이 선택되었다. 성격 C는 ’순응하는 성향 ‘으로 색채 연상에서 청록과 파랑, 빨강과 초록, 노랑의 순으로 높은 선택을 받았다. 그다음 성격 X는 ’긍정적 인 성향‘으로 노랑, 연두, 주황, 파랑의 순으로 높은 색 채 연상을 하였다. 성격 Y는 ’반응하는 성격’으로 자 주, 보라, 빨강과 파랑, 남색과 검정의 순으로 높은 색 채 연상을 하였다. 마지막으로 성격 Z는 ’능력을 보이 는 성향‘으로 검정, 하양, 남색, 회색, 파랑의 순으로 높은 색채 연상 반응을 보였다. 분석 결과 대학생들은 성별에 따른 색채 연상에 차이가 있었고, 성격유형과 색채 연상과의 관계에 있어 서도 그 상관관계가 나타나고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이 상의 결과로 대학생의 성격유형에 따른 색채 연상과는 유의미한 관계가 있으며 대학생의 연상 색채는 대학생 의 심리적, 사회적, 인지적 스트레스 경험 행동을 해석 하고 예측하는 데 필요한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있음이 시사되었다. 색채의 연상을 성격 진단에 적용하였다는 점에서 학술적 의의가 높고, 성격유형을 진단하는데 있 어 직관적인 방법으로 개인의 자아 탐색과 타인을 이해 할 수 있는 가능성을 보여주었다는 데에 본 연구가 큰 기여가 있기를 기대하는 바이다.
