As interest in sustainable environmental practices that consider social fairness and responsibility grows, the fashion industry is implementing various forms of sustainable projects, and these are expanding beyond temporary trends to become issues of core values. Sustainable fashion, which began with awareness of environmental damage and waste, is increasingly emphasized due to changing consumer lifestyles, such as protecting the environment and recycling produced clothing. New experiments and attempts in sustainable fashion hold limitless potential for design development. The purpose of this study is to examine the concept and changing process of sustainability, and to propose a sustainable fashion design with a modern sensibility by utilizing used traditional Korean clothes that reflect Korean sentiment and culture in accordance with the meaning of sustainable fashion design, and to suggest the possibility of commercialization. The research method was based on prior research on sustainable fashion design. Five designs were developed and produced using the design methods of deconstruction, overlapping, distortion, and combination. The redesign of hanbok is significant in that it satisfies the environmental, economic, cultural, and ethical sustainability of sustainable fashion, raises consumer awareness, and contributes to research on sustainable fashion design development.

최근 사회적 공정성과 책임을 고려한 지속가능 환경 실천의 관심이 증가함에 따라 패션산업은 다양한 방식의 지속가능 프로젝트를 기획하고 있으며 이는 일시 적 트렌드가 아닌 주요 가치관의 문제로 확산하고 있다. 지속가능 패션은 환경피해와 낭비 문제에 대한 자각에서 시작하여 환경을 보호하고 생산된 의류를 재활용 하는 등 변화하는 소비자의 라이프스타일로 인해 더욱 강조되고 있으며 지속가능 패션의 다양한 기획과 실천은 무궁무진한 디자인 개발의 가능성을 내재하고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 지속가능성에 대한 개념 및 변화 과정을 살펴보고 한국 정서와 문화가 반영된 한복을 소재로 지속가능 패션디자인의 의미에 맞게 활용하여 현대 적 감각의 지속가능 패션디자인을 제안하고 상품화 가능성을 제시하는 데 있다. 연구 방법은 지속가능 패션디자인 관련 선행연구들을 기반으로 구현 방법을 도출 하여 해체, 중첩, 왜곡, 결합의 디자인 방법에 따라 디자인을 개발하고 실물 제작하였다. 한복의 업사이클 리디자인은 지속가능 패션의 환경적, 경제적, 문화적, 윤 리적 지속가능성을 충족시키고 소비자들의 인식 제고와 더불어 지속가능 패션디자인 개발 기획과 연구에 기여한다는 점에서 그 의의가 있다.
