This study examined the unique status of ‘didactic’ texts as within the context of Korean classical poetry to reconsider the prevailing notion of didacticism. By tracing the conceptual histories of the ‘didacticism’ and the ‘Literariness,’ this research identified the influence of Romantic Orientalism on the discourse of Korean classical literature and sought theoretical alternatives. Specifically, it attempted a new reading of early Joseon poetry, by focusing on the religiosity or religious sensibility inherent in the texts. The paper first conducted a conceptual-historical review of Western literary theories—ranging from Aristotle to Kant and Hegel—and their reinterpretation by Dong-il Cho. This served as a basis to reevaluate the Romantic Orientalism embedded in established notions of ‘literariness.’ To move beyond didacticismcentered frames, the s tudy explored how early Joseon poetry exerted its literary and cultural impact through the religious sensibilities of creators and audiences at that time. Ultimately, this work redefined the value of classical poetry for modern readers, seeking to resolve public cynicism by questioning what the true meaning and value of these texts were.

이 논문은 흔히 ‘교술적’으로 간주되는 텍스트들이 고전문학-고전시가 학계의 지형 가운데 처한 특수성에 주목하여, 오늘날 한국 고전문학 담론의 중요한 축을 이루는 ‘교술성’ 관념을 재고하기 위한 시론이다. ‘교술성’ 혹은 그와 깊숙이 결부된 ‘문학성’의 개념사를 재고하면서 한국 고전문학 연구에 드리운 낭만주의적 오리엔탈리즘의 그림자를 톺아보고, 이에 대한 대안을 모색하기 위함이다. 구체적으로는 조선 전기의 고전시가 텍스트를 대상 으로 ‘종교적 심성’에 주목한 새로운 독해를 시도한다. 본고는 먼저 오늘날 문학 관념에 지대한 영향을 끼친 아리스토텔레스나 칸트․헤겔 등의 서구 문학이론, 그리고 그 용어와 개념을 한국문학의 언어로 가장 완정하게 번역 혹은 재해석한 조동일의 이론을 개념사적으로 재고한다. 이를 기반으로 고전문학의 ‘문학성’ 관념에 내재한 낭만주의적 오리엔탈리즘을 재조명할 수 있을 것이다. 4장에서는 ‘교술성’ 에 입각한 문학 담론의 대안을 모색하기 위해, ‘교술적’ 텍스트로 상정된 조선 전기 고전시가가 그 창작과 향유의 국면에서 어떠한 방식으로 문학적이고 문화적인 파급력을 발휘하였을지 당대인의 ‘종교적 심성’ 차원에서 가늠해 본다. 이러한 시도는 한국 고전시가 를 완전히 다른 세상의 무언가로 받아들이고 있는 현대인들에게 그 의미와 가치를 어떻게 설명하고 설득할지 고민하기 위해, 기존에 당연시되곤 하는 한국 고전시가의 의미와 가치 가 진정 어떤 것이었는지 되묻는 작업이다. 이러한 작업이 고전시가, 또는 고전문학 일반을 향한 대중의 냉소 혹은 비아냥을 ‘그건 네가 고전시가를 잘 몰라서 그래’라는 말로 외면하는 대신 적극적으로 해결-해소하기 위한 단초가 되기를 기대한다.
