This study views the symbolic revolution of Homo sapiens as a multimodal process and argues that the coevolution of language, art, and technology unfolded in response to unstable environments and group survival demands in the Middle Pleistocene. Symbolic cognition emerging in the Upper Paleolithic was not confined to spoken language: other modalities such as facial expression, bodily movement, collective dance, and visual art were jointly mobilized to sustain social cohesion and the transmission of knowledge. Rapid climatic change required cooperation and bonding among group members, and under these conditions prehistoric art became a channel of social integration. The acoustic environments of caves constrained and guided signal design, which is in line with archaeoacoustic findings that cave paintings cluster around acoustic hotspots. Approximating eight spaces in Lascaux, Chauvet, and Altamira from dimensional data, the paper estimates chamber capacities of 23.5–47.7 people and proposes a model with 24 participants assigned to the roles of scouting, prompting, evaluation, performance, production, lighting, pigment preparation, and spectatorship. In doing so, it argues that linguistic capacity did not arise in a single leap, but emerged together with visual art and technology under a multimodal symbolic revolution.

본 논문은 호모사피엔스의 상징혁명을 다중양태적 과정으로 이해하고, 언어·미술·기술의 공진화가 중기 홍적세의 변동적 환경과 집단 생존 요구 속에서 어떻게 나타났는지를 논증한다. 후기 구석기 시대에 창발한 상징 적 인지작용은 음성언어에 한정되지 않으며 얼굴 표정, 신체 동작, 집단 춤, 시각미술 등 언어 외적 양태가 함께 동원되어 사회적 통합과 지식 전 승을 지탱했다. 급격한 기후 변화는 사회적 구성원들 사이에서의 협력과 유대를 요구했고, 이 조건에서 선사미술이 결속의 통로가 되었다. 동굴의 음향환경은 신호 설계를 제약·유도했으며, 이는 동굴벽화가 음향 핫스팟 에서 발견된다는 고고음향학 연구의 보고와 일치한다. 본 논문은 라스코· 쇼베·알타미라의 여덟 공간을 치수 자료로 근사해 수용 인원을 23.5~ 47.7명으로 추정하고, 참여인원을 24명으로 설정한 뒤 정찰–제시–평가–연 주–제작–조명–안료–관람의 역할을 배정한 모델을 제안한다. 그로써 언어 능력이 단번의 비약으로 나타난 대신, 다중양태적인 상징혁명 하에 시각 미술 및 기술과 함께 창발했음을 논증한다.
