For him, wasn’t his infinite reading of the Talmud intended to foster the continuous transmission of the Torah, thereby encouraging faith and enlightenment within the Jewish community? Furthermore, understanding his Talmud reading and interpretation methods can help us reconstruct the core values of the philosophy of the Other? These questions form the crucial background of this article. The learning and enlightenment required in Levinas’s Talmud study also apply the Other-centered, conversational learning method of Havruta, a crucial method for understanding and transmitting the meaning of the Torah. Teaching through this dialogue and directing one toward the uniqueness of the soul are essential to Levinas’s study of the Talmud.
