This article reexamines the prevailing literary-historical framework that has explained Kim Gyudong’s poetics as a discontinuous shift from modernism to realism, and instead seeks to shed new light on the temporal and logical relationship between his poetic theory and poetic practice. To this end, it analyzes Kim’s early poetics as articulated in New Poetics and examines poems from Myths of the Modern Age, focusing on how poetic practice preceded theoretical formulation. The analysis reveals that Kim’s early poetry already perceived history and society not as external themes but as internal conditions of poetic experience, articulating a mode of reality recognition through multiple layers such as temporal continuity, bodily response, and the language of diagnosis. Within this accumulation of poetic practice, poetic theory emerged belatedly as a language of self-explanation, while Kim’s later socially engaged poetics can be understood not as a rupture from his early poetics but as the historical actualization of concerns already immanent within them. By reconstructing the transformation of Kim Gyudong’s poetics from the perspective of the dialectical tension between continuity and discontinuity, this article argues that the dynamic relationship between poetry and thought constitutes the central driving force of his literary trajectory.

이 논문은 김규동의 시학을 모더니즘에서 리얼리즘으로의 단절적 전향 과정 으로 설명해 온 기존의 문학사적 도식을 재검토하고, 그의 시론과 시적 실천 사 이의 시간적·논리적 관계를 새롭게 조명하고자 한다. 이를 위해 『새로운 시론』에 나타난 초기 시학을 분석하고, 『현대의 신화』에 수록된 시편들을 중심으로 시적 실천이 시론에 선행했음을 검토하였다. 분석 결과, 김규동의 초기 시는 이 미 역사와 사회를 외부의 주제가 아니라 시적 경험의 내적 조건으로 감각하고 있었으며, 시간의 지속, 신체의 반응, 진단의 언어라는 다양한 층위를 통해 현 실 인식을 구현하고 있었다. 이러한 시적 실천의 누적 속에서 시론은 뒤늦게 자 기 해명의 언어로 형성되었으며, 이후의 사회 참여적 시학은 초기 시학과의 단 절이 아니라 내재된 문제의식이 역사와 사회적 조건 속에서 전면화된 결과로 이해될 수 있다. 이 논문은 김규동 시학의 변전을 불연속과 연속의 길항이라는 관점에서 재구성함으로써, 시와 사유의 긴장 관계가 그의 문학적 여정을 관통하 는 핵심 동력임을 밝히고자 한다.
