This study investigates the occupational competencies required of foreign office workers and analyzes their educational needs to suggest directions for Korean-language education for occupational purposes. Based on Korea’s National Competency Standards(NCS), four competency domains were identified: job-seeking preparation, interpretation and translation, basic vocational competencies, and job-adaptation competencies. A survey of 36 foreign office workers who had graduated from Korean universities or graduate schools revealed a high demand for résumé and self-introduction letter writing, business interpretation, translation vocabulary, and the Korean-language communication skills needed for workplace tasks and decision-making. This study highlights the importance of employment-oriented education for international students and proposes concrete educational content for occupational Korean-language instruction. The limitations include the small sample size and focus on office occupations, suggesting the need for further research across diverse job fields.

이 연구는 외국인 사무직 근로자가 갖추어야 할 직업 역량을 탐색하고 이 들의 교육적 요구를 분석하여 직업 목적 한국어 교육의 세부 내용을 제안 하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 국가직무능력표준(NCS)을 기반으 로 사무직 외국인 근로자에게 요구되는 역량을 규명하였으며 외국인 근 로자의 특성을 반영하여 최종적으로 구직준비역량과 통･번역역량, 직업 기초역량, 직업적응역량의 4가지 역량군과 한국 기업 문화 이해 능력 및 정보･기술 능력 등 총 14개의 하위 능력을 도출하였다. 또한 국내 대학 및 대학원을 졸업한 후 사무직에 종사하고 있는 외국인 근로자 36명을 대상 으로 설문조사를 실시함으로써 교육적 요구와 우선순위를 분석하였다. 그 결과, ‘구직 준비 역량’에 해당하는 ‘자기소개서 및 이력서 작성법’에 대한 요구가 가장 높았으며, ‘비즈니스 통･번역을 위한 기초 지식 및 어 휘’, ‘업무 수행과 의사결정 과정에 필요한 한국어 의사소통능력’ 등에 대한 요구도 높게 나타났다. 이 연구는 유학생의 취업 및 직무 역량 강화 를 위한 교육의 필요성을 강조하고 유학생 대상 직업 목적 한국어 교육의 내용을 구체적으로 제시하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 다만 조사 대상이 적고 논의가 사무직에 한정되었다는 점이 한계로 남아 있다. 향후에는 직무 영역별 직업 역량을 폭넓게 살피고 구체적인 교육과정 및 교육 방안 에 대한 논의가 이어지기를 바란다.
