This paper is a study that compares and analyzes the transmission structure and performance patterns of Munjeonje, a New Year household ritual, practiced in the eastern part of Seogwipo-si, Jeju Island (Gasi-ri, Sehwa-ri, and Taeheung-ri). Although Gasi-ri, Sehwa-ri, and Taeheung-ri are geographically adjacent, there were significant differences in the transmission forms of Olle-kosa, that is, Munjeonje. The key point observed through the cases of Olle-kosa in the three villages is the change in the relationship between simbang and dangol, and the resulting transformation in the role of the simbang. In general, a village-affiliated simbang is expected to comprehensively oversee individual household rituals of village residents. However, the results of the present field investigation show that the actual situation differs from this expectation. In particular, as the role of the simbang has gradually moved away from its original ritual functions, dangol have come to focus more on whether the ritual itself continues rather than who performs it. Therefore, this study is expected to contribute to filling a research gap on Munjeonje in Jeju Island by presenting, through a comparison of the three villages, the actual structure of contemporary rituals, changes in ritual officiants, and differences in ritual sequence composition.

본고는 제주도 서귀포시 동부지역(가시리·세화리·태흥리)에서 새해 정초에 행해지는 문전제의 전승 구조와 수행 양상을 현지 조사를 바탕으로 비교하고 분석한 연구다. 가시리, 세화리, 태흥리는 지리적으로 인접해 있나, 올레코 즉 문전제의 전승 형태는 상당한 차이를 띠었다. 각각 세 마을의 올레코 사 례를 통해 주목할 수 있는 지점은 심방-단골 관계의 변화와 그로 인해 달라지 는 심방의 역할이다. 일반적으로 ‘당 매인 심방’이라 하면 해당 마을 주민들의 개인 의례까지 포괄적으로 담당할 것으로 예상한다. 하지만 현제 조사 결과 실 제 양상은 이와 달랐다. 특히 주의 깊게 볼 점은, 이러한 심방의 역할이 본래 의 의례 담당 기능에서 점차 이탈하면서, 단골 역시 ‘누가 집전을 하는가’보다 ‘의례가 지속되는가’에 초점을 두게 되었다는 사실이다. 따라서 본고에서 현행 의례 실제 구조와 집전 주체의 변화, 제차 구성의 차이 등을 세 마을 비교를 통해 구체적으로 제시한다는 점에서 제주도 문전제 연구 공백을 실질적으로 보완하는 의의를 지닐 것으로 보인다.
