This article reinterprets Kaneshirō Kazuki’s GO beyond identity or postcolonial frames, reading it through the triad of mobility–infrastructure–affect. Rather than foregrounding will or character, the novel exposes how state and urban infrastructures permit or block movement. The opening cue “Hawaii” signals thresholds—nationality change and legal registration—required to access circuits of air travel, tourism, media, and consumption. Classroom corporal punishment, street ID checks, and demands for an alien registration card reveal a surveillant infrastructure that documents and quantifies the subject. By contrast, Ginza’s cinemas and dessert parlors provide affective buffering while simultaneously operating as urban devices that distribute consumable affects. Within the romance plot, Sugihara’s confession—“I’m not Japanese”—works as an utterance that invalidates the institutional language of nationality at the affective level, while Sakurai’s silence and “blood” discourse expose how lineage/national codes occupy relational circuits. The exchange of names—“Sakurai Tsubaki” / “Lee (李)”—condenses the violence of linguistic infrastructure as a mechanism of naming and stigma. Eschewing fantasies of total institutional “overcoming,” the novel advances a micropolitics of survival—flexibility, absorption, and the reallocation of momentary calm. Ultimately, GO asks not “who one is” but how one moves and loves. As infrastructures configure both itineraries and affective flows, the protagonists test a love on the border, crafting fine– grained fissures within unequal regimes of mobility.
