Pelophylax nigromaculatus produces advertisement calls even during the non-breeding season. The acoustic characteristics of such non-breeding season calls has not been studied. We investigated the acoustic properties and calling pattern of non-breeding season calls of P. nigromaculatus. The non-breeding season calls had a lower dominant frequency and more pulses than that of the breeding season calls. The temperature, wind speed, and humidity had a significant effect on the acoustic properties. Production of the non-breeding season calls gradually decrease after the peak in mid-September. Daily, the production was more frequent at night, from sunset to dawn. These results indicate that non-breeding season calls of P. nigromaculatus are actively produced and have unique call properties, comparing to the breeding season calls, suggesting that the non-breeding season calls may have its specific function.
