This study reports a case of mass mortality of Pelodiscus spp. discovered in a retention pond within an urban park. On 13 May 2025, a survey conducted at Baekgan Neighborhood Park in Wonju, Gangwon Province, revealed low water levels that had exposed the bottom of the retention pond. Seven carcasses of Pelodiscus spp. were found along the shoreline. The water level was later confirmed to have recovered, and the drops appeared to be due to dredging operations carried out the previous year. These observations suggest that the low water level may have created unsuitable habitat conditions that contributed to the mortality. However, further investigation is required to determine the precise cause of the mortality.

본 연구에서는 도심공원 내 저류지에서 확인된 자라류 (Pelodiscus spp.)의 집단 폐사 사례를 보고하고자 한다. 2025 년 5월 13일 강원특별자치도 원주시에 있는 백간근린공원을 조사한 결과 저류지 수위가 낮아 바닥이 드러나 있었으며 가장 자리를 따라서 자라류 사체 7구가 확인되었다. 이후 저류지의 수위는 회복되었으며 수위 감소 원인은 지난해에 준설 작업이 실시된 것으로 확인되었다. 이에 따라 낮은 수위로 인해 서식 환경이 적합하지 않아 폐사한 것으로 추정되며, 명확한 폐사 원인을 규명하기 위해 추가적인 조사와 분석 필요하다.
