Albinism, a depigmentation disorder caused by genetic defects in melanin synthesis, is rarely observed among vertebrates. On 23 May 2024, an albino individual of Pelophylax nigromaculatus was observed in a rice paddy wetland in Yesan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, Korea. The specimen was a subadult female with an SVL of 40.71 mm and a body weight of 4.95 g. The dorsum was yellow, the dorsolateral ridges were white, and the pupils were red. These morphological characteristics correspond to typical albinism previously reported in this species. This observation represents the fifth record worldwide and the second record in Korea, notable for being the first wild subadult individual rather than a larval case. Interestingly, all albino P. nigromaculatus recorded in Korea have been found in the Chungcheongnam-do region, suggesting potential genetic or environmental influences. Further studies on the genetic diversity of local populations and environmental factors are required to elucidate the causes of albinism occurrence in this species.

알비니즘은 멜라닌 합성에 관여하는 유전자 결함으로 인 한 색소 결핍 현상으로, 척추동물에서 드물게 보고된다. 우 리는 2024년 5월 23일 충청남도 예산군 논 습지에서 알비노 참개구리(Pelophylax nigromaculatus) 1개체를 관찰하였다. 개체는 아생체 암컷으로 SVL 40.71 mm, 체중 4.95 g이었으 며, 몸통은 노란색, 등 융기선은 흰색, 동공은 붉은색을 나타 냈다. 이러한 특징은 기존 연구에서 보고된 알비노 개체의 전 형적 형태와 일치하였다. 본 보고는 세계에서 다섯 번째, 한 국에서 두 번째 보고로 기존에 보고된 알비노 올챙이 개체들 과 달리 아성체로 성장한 개체가 야생에서 발견된 점이 특별 하다. 또한 한국에서는 모두 충청남도에서 알비노 참개구리 가 관찰되어 추후 개체군의 유전적 다양성과 환경 요인에 대 한 분석을 통해 알비노 개체의 발생 원인 규명이 필요하다.
