This study aimed to confirm the mediating effect of smoking on the relationship between depression and toothache in adult women. Using original data from the 9th National Health and Nutrition Survey (2023), 2,134 adult women were selected for the final analysis. A logistic regression analysis to confirm the mediating effect showed that regular cigarette smoking had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between depression and toothache (Z=4.427, p<0.001). This result confirmed that smoking among women is not simply a lifestyle factor, but a mediating factor connecting mental health and oral health. Therefore, integrated smoking cessation programs and policies that address both mental and oral health are needed for female smokers. Furthermore, strategies to simultaneously monitor and manage depression and smoking status are needed in dental practice settings.

본 연구는 성인 여성의 우울감과 치아통증의 관계에서 흡연의 매개효과를 확인하고자 하였다. 연구 방법 은 국민건강영양조사 제9기(2023) 원시자료를 활용하여 성인 여성 2134명을 최종 분석 대상으로 선정하였다. 매개 효과를 확인하기 위한 위계적 로지스틱 회귀분석 결과 우울감과 치아통증의 관계에서 일반담배 흡연이 부분 매개 효과를 나타냈다(Z=4.427, p<0.001). 이 결과는 여성의 흡연이 단순한 생활습관 요인이 아니라 정신건강과 구강건 강을 연결하는 매개요인임을 확인하였다. 따라서 여성 흡연자를 대상으로 정신건강과 구강건강을 포괄하는 통합적 인 금연 프로그램과 정책이 필요하다. 또한 치과진료 현장에서도 우울감과 흡연 여부를 함께 확인하고 관리하는 전략이 요구된다.
