It is the Parable of the Sower that plays key role in the Gospel of Mark 4. Not less important is the “measure for measure” argument that is linked closely with the Parable: “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and it will be added to you.”(Mark 4:24) The goal of this article is to clarify the rhetorical implications of the “measure for measure” argument in the context of Mark 4:1-34. The point is the ‘reverse rhetoric’ of the argument. The “measure for measure” argument opens a new horizon in rhetoric called ‘reverse rhetoric’—it regards the audience as the agent of the rhetoric.
