Chen Julai (陳巨來) was a representative seal carver in twentieth-century China, achieving original accomplishments in both the artistic and theoretical dimensions of Yuan-style Zhu-wen (元朱文) seal carving. Based on literature review and work analysis, this study systematically examines his artistic features, formative factors, and theoretical contributions. From the four aspects of composition (zhangfa,章法), script usage (zhuanfa,篆法), knife technique (daofa,刀法), and line quality (xiantiao,线条), it identifies the aesthetic traits of Yuan-style Zhu-wen seal carving, summarized as “balanced composition, script usage grounded in Shuowen, refined knife technique, and elegant lines.” The paper further demonstrates how erudition and self-cultivation, personal temperament, historical environment, and creative attitude interacted to shape Chen’s distinctive style. In particular, under the guiding principle of “assimilating antiquity without slavish imitation” (合古而不泥古), he realized a synthesis of tradition and innovation.Through Anchi jingshe yincun (《安持精舍印冣》) and other writings, Chen established a value system centered on composition and offered critical evaluations of different schools, thereby contributing to the academic transformation of modern seal studies. Finally, the study points out that his artistic practice and theoretical thought were transmitted through disciples and later generations, influencing education and research, and continue to hold broad scholarly and artistic significance today. This paper argues that Chen Julai was both a synthesizer of Yuan-style Zhu-wen seal carving and an important architect of modern seal theory, whose thought and art constituted the dual pillars of inheritance and innovation in the development of Chinese seal art.

진진거래(陳巨來)는 20세기 중국 인단(印壇)을 대표하는 전각가로서, 원주문(元朱文) 전각에서 예술과 이론 양 측면 모두에 걸쳐 전범적 의의를 지닌 인물이다. 본 연구는은 문헌 고찰과 예술작품 분석을 연구 방법으로 그의 전각 예술이 지니는 특성 과 풍격 형성 요인, 그리고 이론적 기여를 체계적으로 고찰하였다. 우선 장법·전법·도 법·선조 네 측면에서 진거래 원주문 인장의 예술적 특징을 규명하고, 그 인풍이 “균정 한 장법(佈置勻整)”, “『설문(說文)』에 순종한 전법(純宗《說文》)”, “충각과 절각의 병용(沖切並用)”, “아정하고 수려한 선조(雅靜秀潤)”라는 미적 풍모를 통해 드러남을 강조하였다. 나아가 학식과 수양, 개성적 기질, 시대적 환경, 창작 상태가 인풍 형성에 미친 영향을 분석하고 진거래가 “합고이불니고(合古而不泥古)”라는 원칙 아래 전통과 혁신의 통일을 구현하였음을 밝혔다. 또한 ≪안지정사인집(安持精舍印冣)≫ 및 관련 논저에 대한 분석을 통해, 장법·전법·도법 및 유파 평가에 관한 그의 이론적 구축 과정 을 정리하고, 그 논의가 합리적 비평과 학술적 체계화를 지향하고 있음을 논증하였다. 끝으로 진거래의 예술과 이론이 후대에 미친 심원한 영향을 정리하면서, 이른바 “안지 학파(安持學派)”의 형성과 계승·전파에 기여하였을 뿐 아니라, 현대 전각 교육과 연구 에 방법론적 지침을 제공하였음을 제시하였다. 본 연구는 진거래가 원주문 전각의 집 대성자이자 근현대 인학(印學) 이론의 중요한 구축자이며, 그의 예술 실천과 학술 사 상이 중국 전각사의 전개 과정에서 과거를 계승하고 미래를 여는(承前啟後) 의의를 지 닌다는 점을 밝히고자 한다.
