This study analyzes the forms and relational dynamics of verbal violence that frequently occur in schools yet are often hidden as jokes or casual teasing. Using Infante’s framework, the ten subtypes of verbal aggressiveness were reorganized into five categories appropriate for peer-interaction contexts, and Kim Ryeo-ryeong’s Elegant Lies was examined as the primary text. The analysis shows that verbal violence accumulates through repeated interactions—labeling, ridicule, nonverbal signals, and the loss of visibility—ultimately weakening the victim’s self-esteem and relational position. The study highlights the cumulative and collective nature of such violence and identifies educational implications. Literary-based activities can help students recognize the impact of their language use, develop peace sensitivity, and promote inclusive classroom cultures.

본 연구는 학교 내에서 빈번하게 발생하지만 사소한 ‘장난’으로 은폐되는 언어폭력의 유형을 파악하고, 교육 현장에서의 적용 가능성을 모색한다. 이를 위해 Infante의 틀을 학급·또래 상호작용 맥락에 맞게 다섯 범주로 재구성하고, 김려령의 소설 『우아한 거짓 말』을 분석 대상으로 삼았다. 분석 결과, 언어폭력은 반복과 상호작용을 통해 낙인 형 성, 조롱·비언어 신호의 확산, 가시성 상실·침묵 고착으로 누적되어 피해자의 자존감과 존재감을 약화시키는 양상으로 나타났다. 또한 언어폭력은 가정환경·문화적 배경·사회 적 차이를 근거로 한 조롱이나 배제로도 나타날 수 있어, 본 연구의 분석 틀은 다문화· 다양성 교육의 관점에서도 활용 가능함을 시사한다. 이러한 결과는 관계 회복을 가로 막는 고통의 경로를 드러내는 동시에, 문학 텍스트를 활용한 역할극·토론·감정 이해 활 동 등의 교육적 접근을 통해 학생들의 평화 감수성과 언어적 책임성을 강화할 수 있음 을 보여준다.
