This study explored the bilingual language practices within the home and educational environments of KoreanVietnamese multicultural families in Hanoi, Vietnam, and examined how parental language use influences children’s bilingual development. In-depth interviews were conducted with 10 families living in Hanoi. Findings revealed five patterns of spousal language use: Korean-dominant, Vietnamese-dominant, mixed-use (alternating Korean, Vietnamese, and English depending on context), English-dominant, and KoreanVietnamese parallel use. Children’s language proficiency was classified into five types: Korean-dominant, Vietnamese-dominant, balanced bilingual, balanced trilingual, and limited acquisition. These results indicate that parents’ language proficiency, attitudes, and degree of linguistic involvement play a crucial role in shaping children’s acquisition and maintenance of Korean and Vietnamese. By providing an in-depth analysis of the linguistic environments of multicultural families in Vietnam, this study provides foundational insights for supporting the bilingual development of children from multicultural backgrounds.

본 연구는 베트남 하노이에 거주하는 한-베 다문화 가정의 부모와 자녀를 대상으로 가정 및 교육 환경에서의 이중언어 사용 실태를 탐색하고, 부모의 언어 사용 방식이 자 녀의 언어 발달에 미치는 영향을 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 하노이 지역의 10가정 을 대상으로 심층 면담을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 부부 간 언어 사용은 한국어 중심형, 베트남어 중심형, 혼합 사용형(한국어, 베트남어, 영어를 상황에 따라 혼합 사용하는 방식), 영어 중심형, 한국어·베트남어 병행형의 다섯 가지 유형으로 나타났다. 또한 자 녀의 언어 능력은 한국어 우세형, 베트남어 우세형, 균형 이중형, 균형 삼중형, 제한적 습득형으로 구분되었다. 이러한 결과는 부모의 언어 능력과 태도, 언어적 참여 정도가 자녀의 한국어 및 베트남어 습득과 유지에 핵심 요인으로 작용함을 보여준다. 본 연구 는 베트남 현지 다문화 가정의 언어 환경을 심층적으로 제시함으로써, 다문화 가정 자 녀의 이중언어 발달을 지원하기 위한 기초 자료를 제공한다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
