This study investigates the applicability of Design-Based Teaching (DBT) to Korean language education, with a particular focus on integrating linguistic and cultural learning. With the increasing diversity of learners, traditional teaching approaches reveal limitations, highlighting the need for innovative instructional designs that foster creativity, intercultural awareness, and problem-solving. This study proposes a prototype instructional model that incorporates the five stages of DBT—empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test—into Korean language and culture instruction. An exploratory literature analysis suggests that DBT can enhance learners’ linguistic accuracy, cultural appropriateness, creative problem-solving abilities, and intercultural sensitivity. The proposed model was also examined through a simulated classroom scenario to assess its potential applicability in real educational contexts. This study offers a learner-centered, culture-integrated instructional design model and provides implications for future empirical research to validate and refine the framework in actual Korean language classrooms.

본 연구는 디자인 기반 교수법(Design-Based Teaching, 이하 DBT)을 한국어 교육 의 교수·학습 설계에 적용하여 언어와 문화 통합 교육의 이론적 가능성과 실천적 함의 를 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 최근 한국어 교육 현장은 다양한 배경을 가진 학습자 의 증가로 전통적인 교수법의 한계를 드러내고 있으며, 창의력 문제 해결 능력 강화를 위한 새로운 교수·학습 설계가 요구되고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 문제의식에서 출발하 여 DBT의 핵심 단계인 공감, 문제 정의, 아이디어 발상, 시제품 제작, 평가를 한국어 교 육에 접목하여 구체적인 교수 설계 모형을 제안하였다. 이 연구는 문헌 기반 탐색적 연 구를 통해 DBT가 언어적 정확성과 문화적 적절성을 동시에 강화하고, 학습자의 창의 적 문제 해결과 상호문화 감수성을 높일 수 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 개발된 DBT 기반 수업 설계 모형의 표준 프레임워크를 적용하여 가상 수업을 설계하였다. 본 연구의 의 의는 DBT를 활용한 학습자 중심, 문화 통합형 수업 설계의 구체적 모델을 제시했다는 데 있다. 향후 연구에서는 본 모형을 실제 교육 현장에 적용하여 학습 효과를 실증적으 로 검증할 필요가 있다.
