The purpose of this study is to explore the ethical perceptions in the VAR system by analyzing cases experienced by K-League referees and to suggest directions for improvement. The findings showed positive perceptions of the VAR system and match fairness, due to reduced misjudgments, opportunities to overturn decisions, and reviews through video. Negative perceptions arose from limited technical proficiency and instability of judgment caused by distorted images. Positive views reflected the restoration of referees’ authority and the enhancement of dignity through technological support, while negative views indicated reduced referee roles and diminished dignity from excessive reliance on VAR. Regarding psychological experiences and ethical reflection, reversed decisions caused embarrassment and lower self-esteem but also encouraged ethical self-reflection. To address these issues, the study suggests improving the technical reliability of VAR, strengthening referee training, and promoting greater social acceptance of refereeing decisions.

본 연구의 목적은 VAR 시스템의 활용과 관련하여 K리그 심판이 경험한 사례를 심층적으로 분석함으로써, VAR 운영 과정에서 드러나는 윤리 적 인식을 탐색하고, 그에 따른 개선 방향을 모색하는 데 있다. 연구 결 과, VAR 시스템과 경기 결과의 공정성에 대한 긍정적 견해는 오심 감소, 판정 번복 기회, 영상을 통한 판정 재검토 등이 도출되었고 부정적 견해 는 기술력 부족, 왜곡된 영상으로 인한 판정 혼란이 도출되었다. VAR 시 스템과 심판의 존엄성에 대한 긍정적 견해는 판정의 정당화를 통한 심 판의 권위 회복, 기술적 보완을 통한 존엄성 제고가 나타났으며, 부정적 견해는 심판 역할의 위축과 VAR 시스템 지나친 의존으로 인한 심판의 존엄성 훼손이 나타났다. VAR 시스템으로 인한 심리적 경험 및 윤리적 성찰에서는 판정 번복은 창피함과 자존감 저하 등 심리적 부담을 초래 하지만, 판정에 대한 윤리적 자기 성찰의 계기로도 작용하고 있는 것으 로 나타났다. 이러한 문제의 개선 방안으로는 VAR 시스템의 기술적 보 완, VAR 시스템 운용에 대한 교육 강화, 심판 판정에 대한 사회적 수용성 제고 방안 등이 제시되었다.
