This study examines Japanese interview situations where turn–taking is not smoothly managed, and compares/analyzes cases during which aizuchi appeared at the Transition Relevance Place (TRP) and cases where it did not. It was noted that when turn transition was not smooth, silence occurred. In such cases, when aizuchi was used immediately before the silence, discourse was resumed approximately 52.8% faster than if no aizuchi was provided. It was further observed that the participant who spoke immediately prior to the silence tended to be the one to break the silence and resume the discourse. In other words, participants who used aizuchi immediately before the silence acquired the next turn quickly and actively. Moreover, the discourse strategies that appeared immediately after aizuchi included statements that expressed understanding or facilitated the other party's next comment. This can be seen in cases where the function of aizuchi is expanded in a broader sense. In situations where discourse stalls, the results of this study indicate that aizuchi functions as a kind of turn and has a potential role in promoting rapid transition and discourse progression. The acknowledgement of aizuchi as a turn may allow for a more comprehensive explanation of the broad range of its intentional uses.

본 연구는 일본어 인터뷰 담화에서 턴 교대가 원활하게 이루어지지 않는 상황을 대상 으로, TPR(Transition Relevance Place)에서 아이즈치가 나타난 경우와 나타나지 않은 경 우를 비교･분석하였다. 발화문의 문말 부분이 도중에 생략되거나 발화되지 않았을 때, 화자와 청자 사이에서 그 문이 완결의도인지 유지의도인지에 대한 판단이 상이하면 턴 교대가 원활하지 않게 되며, 이로 인해 침묵이 발생할 수 있다. 이러한 침묵상황에서, 침묵 직전에 아이즈치가 사용된 경우, 아이즈치가 사용되지 않은 경우에 비해 담화가 약 52.8% 더 빠르게 재개되 는 경향이 나타났다. 또한, 침묵이 발생하기 직전에 발화를 한 담화참가자가 그 침묵을 깨고 담화를 재개할 가능성이 높다는 특징이 관찰되었다. 즉, 침묵 직전에 아이즈치를 사용한 담화참가자가 신속하고 적극적으로 턴을 획득하는 현상이 확인되었다. 아울러, 아이즈치 직후에 나타나는 담화 전략은 상대방의 다음 발화 를 촉진하거나 이해를 표명하는 실질적인 의미를 가진 발화문이 포함되어 있었으며, 이는 넓은 의미에서의 아이즈치의 기능이 확장된 사례로 볼 수 있다. 이러한 결과를 통해, 담화가 정체된 상황에서는 아이즈치가 하나의 턴처럼 기능하며 신속한 교대와 담화의 진행을 촉진하는 잠재적 역할을 가진다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 아이즈치를 하나의 턴으로 인정하게 되면, 아이즈치의 의도로 사용된 폭넓은 용례를 포괄적으로 설명할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
