1 Corinthians 5:1–13 addresses the issue of sexual immorality. In Corinth, sexual immorality had become widely accepted due to the city's geographical and cultural background. However, Paul emphasizes the seriousness of this matter and exhorts the church based on theological and ethical grounds. This passage holds significance for the Korean church today as it relates to preserving the identity and holiness of the Christian community. This paper proceeds as follows: First, it examines the historical, social, and religious background of the Corinthian church, and considers the position and importance of 1 Corinthians 5:1–13 within the overall structure of the epistle. Then, the passage is analyzed verse by verse. Verses 1–2 explore the specific case of sexual immorality and the inappropriate response of the Corinthian believers, namely their arrogance. Verses 3–8 deal with Paul's decisive judgment and exhortation — his command to expel the sinner from the community and his use of the leaven metaphor to underscore the importance of communal purity. Verses 9–13 clarify misunderstandings about whom to associate with and explore Paul's teaching on the scope of judgment within and outside the church, as well as the meaning of his command to purge the evil from among them. Finally, the paper concludes by summarizing the findings and presenting the contemporary implications and lessons of Paul’s exhortation concerning sexual immorality in 1 Corinthians 5:1–13.

본 논문은 고린도전서 5장 1-13절에 나타난 음행 문제의 구체적인 성격과 심각성, 이에 대한 고린도 교회의 부적절한 반응, 그리고 사도 바울이 이 문제에 대해 제시한 권면의 내용과 그 신 학적, 윤리적 근거를 탐구하고자 한다. 특히 바울이 제시한 공동체적인 죄 제거 절차("사탄에게 내어주는 것", "악한 사람을 내어 쫓는 것")2)의 의미, 누룩 비유를 통해 강조한 공동체 순결의 중 요성,3) 그리고 교회 내부와 외부의 판단 범위를 구분한 지침4) 등을 심층적으로 분석할 것이다.5) 이를 통해 본 논문은 고린도 교회가 처한 특수한 상황 속에서 바울이 제시한 윤리적 권면이 그 공동체의 정체성과 거룩성에 어떤 함의를 갖는지를 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 논문은 다음과 같은 순서로 진행된다. 먼저, 고린도 교회의 역사적, 사회적, 종교적 배경과 고린도전서 5장 1-13절이 편지 전체에서 차지하는 위치 및 중요성을 살펴본다. 그리고 각 절을 세분화하여, 1-2절에서는 음행 문제의 구체적인 실태와 그에 대한 고린도 교인들의 부적절한 반 응(교만)을 분석하고, 3-8절에서는 바울의 단호한 판단과 권면, 즉 죄인을 공동체에서 제거하라는 명령과 누룩 비유를 통한 공동체 정결의 중요성 강조를 다룬다. 9-13절에서는 교제 대상에 대한 오해를 바로잡고, 교회 내부와 외부의 판단 범위에 대한 바울의 가르침 및 공동체 정화 명령의 의미를 탐구한다. 마지막으로 연구 결과를 요약하고, 고린도전서 5장 1-13절의 음행 문제와 바울 의 권면이 갖는 현대적 함의와 교훈을 제시하며 논문을 마무리한다.
