This study examines how the social economy contributes to the revitalization of local tourism through a theoretical review and comparative analysis of domestic and international cases. Key insights include community leadership, financially self-sustaining models, preservation of cultural and environmental assets, and the role of governance and networks. Case studies of Busan’s Gamcheon Culture Village and Andaman Discoveries show that resident participation strengthens community capacity, while well-designed revenue and reinvestment models generate jobs and equitable income. The integration of cultural heritage activities with environmental initiatives further demonstrates that tourism and conservation can reinforce each other. By building governance structures that link public, private, and community actors and by expanding networks, these cases ensure long-term sustainability. The study concludes that social economy actors play a central role in local tourism revitalization and suggests two policy implications: developing region-specific models and strengthening institutional support.

본 연구는 사회적 경제가 지역관광 활성화에 이바지하는 메커니즘을 이론적 고찰과 국내·외 성공 사례 비교‧분석 을 통해 규명하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해, 부산 감천문화마을과 태국 Andaman Discoveries을 분석하였다. 분석을 통해 둘 다 주민이 기획·운 영 단계에 참여함으로써 공동체 역량이 비약적으로 강화되었으며, 자체 수익 모델(투어 프로그램, 상품화, 홈스테이 등)과 수익 환류 구조를 명확히 설계하여 지역 일자리 창출 및 소득 분배가 체계적으로 이루어졌음을 확인하였다. 이를 통해, 사회적 경제 주체는 공동체 역량 강화, 지속 가능 수익 창출, 문화·환경 자산 보전, 협력 네트워크 구 축이라는 네 가지 핵심 역할을 통해 지역관광 활성화의 중추적 역할을 한다는 것을 발견하였다. 이는 지역 맞춤형 사회적 경제 모델을 설계하였다는 점, 공공기관 및 지방정부의 지원 방향을 제안했다는 점, 지 역관광 활성화에 사회적 경제 주체가 기여할 수 있는 가능성을 보여주었다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
