The Korean church today faces a reality of crisis and decline rather than growth. Having experienced unprecedented revival during the turbulent twentieth century-through war, industrialization, and democratization-it has since undergone a steep decline from the 1990s onward. The causes of this crisis are complex, including the influence of materialism, religious pluralism, and postmodernism, as well as the consequences of church expansion such as institutional power, the spread of individualistic faith, and the weakening of biblical church growth. As a result, the essence of biblical growth has diminished, giving way to a success-driven paradigm that prioritizes external expansion. In response, “church revitalization” has emerged as an essential alternative. Church revitalization is not merely numerical increase but the process of returning to the mission of the kingdom of God through essential renewal. This study critically examines the discourse on church revitalization, especially within the Southern Baptist Convention in the United States, and seeks to reinterpret the growth factors of Yoido Full Gospel Church (YFGC) in order to propose practical principles applicable to the revitalization of the Korean church. The primary growth factors of YFGC can be summarized as the textdriven hope message, a Spirit-filled life, fervent prayer, cell-based ministry, and servant leadership. This study critically reflects on these five elements, not to repeat past success stories, but to explore practical methodologies for revitalizing the declining Korean church today.

오늘날 한국교회는 성장보다는 위기와 쇠퇴의 현실에 직면해 있다. 20세기 전쟁, 산업화, 민주화의 격동 속에서 급성장하여 전례 없는 부 흥을 기록했으나 1990년대 이후 급격한 감소세를 보였다. 이러한 위기 의 배경에는 물질주의, 종교다원주의, 포스트모더니즘의 영향, 교회의 대형화와 권력화, 개인주의적 신앙 확산 등 복합적 요인이 작용한다. 그 결과 성경적 교회 성장의 본질은 약화 되고 외형적 성장만을 추구하 는 성공주의적 패러다임이 자리 잡았다. 이에 따라‘교회 재활성화’가 중요한 대안으로 제기된다. 교회 재활 성화란 단순한 수적 증가가 아니라 교회의 본질적 갱신을 통해 하나님 나라의 사명으로 되돌아가는 과정이다. 본 연구는 미국 남침례교단을 중심으로 진행된 재활성화 담론을 비판적으로 고찰하면서 여의도순복 음교회(YFGC)의 성장 요인을 재해석하여 한국교회에 적용이 가능한 실천적 원리를 제시하고자 한다. YFGC의 기존 성장 요인들은 희망의 메시지, 성령 운동, 열정적인 기도, 소그룹 사역, 카리스마 리더십으로 요약된다. 본 연구는 이 다섯 가지 요소를 비판적으로 성찰하여, 단순히 과거의 성공담을 반복하는 것이 아니라 오늘날 쇠퇴하는 한국교회의 재활성화를 위한 실천적 방 법론을 모색하는 데 목적이 있다.
