Overconfidence has drawn much attention among scholars, policymakers and other investors due to its role. In the same context, especially young adults tend to be excessively confident when they make investment decisions. In this situation, some proper financial advice can mitigate their overheated willingness to invest. This paper examines the relationship between overconfidence and market efficiency among Korean young investors with the moderating effect of financial literacy. The authors used data from the survey that was collected from ample respondents in youth in South Korea. The authors find that overconfidence is a significant determinant and negatively associated with market efficiency. Also, the results show that this relationship is moderated through financial literacy. Specifically, the higher an individual’s overconfidence and the lower financial literacy, the less likely market efficiency can occur. In conclusion, financial literacy affects the relationship between overconfidence and market efficiency. Those results document that young investors need the help of financial literacy for their future and financial decision-making.

여러 학자, 정책입안자, 투자자에게 과신이라는 것에 대한 관심이 그 역할 때문에 대두되고 있다. 일례로 특히 청년 계층의 사람들은 투자 관련 의사결정을 내릴 때 지나칠 정도로 자신만만한 경향을 보이기도 한다. 이러한 상황에서 몇몇 적절한 재무적 상담은 과열된 투자 의향을 완 화하는 효과를 가지기도 한다. 본 연구는 과신과 시장 효율성 사이의 관계가 젊은 투자자들 사이에서 어떻게 기능하는지를 확인하는 데에 초점 을 맞추어 진행되었다. 아울러 이러한 관계에서 금융이해력이 어떠한 조절효과를 가지는지에 대해서도 조사해 보았다. 연구결과 과신은 시장 효율성을 설명하는 주요 요인이면서, 시장 효율성에 부정적인 영향을 미치고 있었다. 또한 이러한 관계는 금융이해력에 의해 조절되는 것을 발 견할 수 있었다. 구체적으로 보면, 과신 상태가 높고 금융이해력이 낮으면, 그만큼 시장 효율성이 낮게 나타나고 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 결론 적으로 금융이해력이 과신과 시장 효율성의 부정적 관계를 조절하는 역할을 수행할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 이러한 연구결과는 특히 청년 계층 의 투자자들에게 있어서 그들의 장래와 재무관련 의사결정에 있어서 금융이해력이 도움이 될 수 있음을 나타내고 있다.
