Amid the rapid growth of the content industry, the diversification of domestic source IP shows a weak structure. In this situation, research on cases where a single IP has been expanded to various fields is insufficient. The necessity of research to fill this academic gap can be found. The purpose of this study is to present a guide for diversifying domestic IP businesses by analyzing the IP expansion process step by step, focusing on Pokémon, which is judged to be a successful expansion case of a single IP, and identifying key success factors. To this end, by collecting and analyzing publicly available data such as the Korea Creative Content Agency and media articles, the expansion of Pokémon was chronologically described and categorized to derive success factors. After that, I was the only one who reviewed the applicability through comparative analysis with domestic cases such as level-up, catch! Tining, etc. As a result, the expansion of Pokémon IP was divided into media mix foundation construction, overseas expansion and strategic partnership construction, business model innovation, digital innovation, and global platform expansion. In this process, success factors such as simultaneous planning, various scarcity events, and strategic alliances were identified. Based on this, the necessity of simultaneous multi-channel deployment, strategic partnership establishment, IP management system, and platform strategy establishment was confirmed from planning to expanding domestic IP. This study exposed the limitations of generalization based on a single case and the limitations of data collection due to the lack of existing studies. However, it filled the academic gap by systematizing the cases of Pokémon in which a single IP expands to various fields simultaneously and presenting a theoretical model. In addition, by presenting various implications for promoting the establishment of a domestic content IP ecosystem, guidelines for establishing strategies from a practical perspective were presented.

콘텐츠산업의 급성장 속 국내 원천 IP의 다각화는 취약한 구조를 보인다. 이러한 상황에서 단일 IP가 다양한 분야로 확장한 사례에 관한 연구는 매우 부족한 상황이다. 이러한 학문적 공백을 메우기 위한 연 구의 필요성을 찾을 수 있다. 본 연구는 단일 IP의 성공적인 확장 사례로 판단되는 포켓몬스터를 중심으 로 IP 확장의 단계별 과정을 분석하고 핵심 성공요인을 규명하여 국내 IP 사업 다각화를 위한 가이드 제 시를 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여 콘텐츠진흥원 등의 공식적인 자료와 언론 기사 등의 자료를 수집 및 분석하여 포켓몬스터의 확장을 연대기적 서술과 범주화하여 성공요인을 도출했다. 이후 나 혼자만 레벨 업, 캐치! 티닝핑 등 국내 사례와의 비교 분석을 통해 적용 가능성을 검토하였다. 결과 포켓몬스터 IP 확 장은 미디어믹스 기초 구축, 해외 진출 및 전략적 파트너십 구축, 비즈니스 모델 혁신, 디지털 혁신과 글 로벌 플랫폼 확장으로 구분되었다. 이러한 과정에서 동시다발적 기획, 다양한 희소성 이벤트, 전략적 제 휴 등의 다양한 성공요인을 확인하였다. 이를 바탕으로 국내 IP 확장을 위해 기획부터 고려한 다채널 동 시 전개, 전략적 파트너십 구축, IP 관리 체계 및 플랫폼 전략 수립 등의 필요성을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 단일 사례 기반의 연구 결과를 일반화하는 것에 대한 한계와 기존 연구의 부족으로 인한 자료 수집에 한 계를 노출하였다. 하지만 단일 IP가 동시다발적으로 다양한 분야로 확장하는 포켓몬스터의 사례를 체계 화하고 이론적 모델을 제시함으로 학문적 공백을 메웠다. 또한 국내의 콘텐츠 IP 생태계 구축을 촉진하 기 위한 다양한 시사점을 제시함으로 실무적 관점의 전략 수립을 위한 가이드라인을 제시하였다.
