This study aims to search for improvements on dementia patient care service by understanding the contents and level of the care service presented to all elderly medical welfare facilities and the work attitude and satisfaction of care offerers, through purposive sampling of 188 care offerers from elderly medical welfare facilities in Jeju . This is to check and improve the level of the care service for the efficient settlement of dependency insurance for elderly people which is expected to be enforced in July, 2008. Based on these conclusions, proposals on policies and practices of improving dementia patient care service are made. First, treatment toward care offerers must be improved in order to increase the service quality. Second, the recognition on dementia patient care service must be raised. Third, education for the care offerers must be strengthened. Fourth, standardized manuals or work guidebooks should be created for practicing dementia patient care service.

본 연구는 2008년 7월 시행예정인 노인수발보험제도의 효율적인 정착을 위해서 주 대상자인 치매노인에 대한 케어서비스의 수준을 점검하고 개선하기 위해 제주도에 소재한 전체 노인의료복지시설에서 케어제공자 188명을 유의표집 하여 치매노인에게 제공하고 있는 케어서비스의 내용과 수준, 케어제공자들의 업무태도 및 만족도 등을 파악함으로써 치매노인에게 제공자하는 케어 서비스의 개선방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 조사결과를 근거로 치매노인을 위한 케어서비스의 개선방안을 방안을 다음과 같이 제언한다. 첫째, 치매노인 케어서비스의 질을 개선하기 위해서는 먼저 케어제공자에 대한 처우가 개선되어야 할 것이다. 둘째, 치매노인 케어서비스에 대한 인식의 제고가 필요하다. 셋째, 케어제공자에 대한 교육과 케어제공자들의 실천노력이 강화되어야 할 것이다. 넷째, 치매노인 케어서비스 실천을 위한 지속적인 연구와 표준화된 매뉴얼 혹은 업무지침의 개발이 필요할 것이다.
