In 2025, a large-scale wildfire in Sancheong, Gyeongnam Province, caused extensive damage to the local community and tragically resulted in the deaths of four public officials who participated in firefighting operations. All victims were found in a completely charred state. This study qualitatively analyzed these cases to review the forensic characteristics of whole-body charred deaths caused by wildfire. Based on field investigation and literature review, this study examined postmortem changes, identification methods, limitations of autopsy, and the forensic significance of such cases. The analysis demonstrated that fingerprint analysis played a crucial role in victim identification, while highlighting the limitations of conventional forensic procedures in severely burned remains. These findings emphasize the necessity of systematic forensic responses and the urgent importance of ensuring the safety of public officials engaged in wildfire suppression. This study provides valuable reference data for future disaster response systems.

2025년 경남 산청에서 발생한 대규모 산불은 지역사회에 막대한 피해를 초래하였으며, 특히 산불 진화 과정에 투입된 산청군 소속 공무원과 산불 진화 대원 4명이 전신 탄화 상태 로 사망하는 사례가 발생하였다. 본 연구는 이들 사례에 대한 질적 분석을 통해 산불로 인 한 전신 탄화 사망의 법의학적 특징을 고찰하였다. 현장 조사와 관련 문헌 검토를 바탕으로 시신의 외표 변화, 신원 확인 과정, 부검의 한계와 과학수사의 의의를 제시하였다. 분석 결 과, 지문 분석이 신원 확인에 핵심적 역할을 했으며, 대량 재난 상황에서 공무원 안전 확보 와 체계적 과학수사의 필요성이 부각되었다. 본 연구는 향후 산불 진화 인력의 안전 관리와 법의학적 대응 체계 확립을 위한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
