This study aimed to explore the professional competencies of music therapists as perceived by practitioners themselves. To this end, eight music therapists who held professional certification and had between 6 and 22 years of clinical experience were recruited as participants, and each engaged in an in-depth interview lasting an average of 50 minutes. The collected data were systematically analyzed using the Consensual Qualitative Research (CQR) method, which involved domain construction, category derivation, consensus, and auditing procedures. The analysis revealed 4 domains and 20 categories of professional competencies recognized by music therapists, namely ‘case conceptualization,’ ‘musical interventions,’ ‘non-musical interventions,’ and ‘therapists efforts for professional development.’ These findings provide concrete evidence for identifying the specific elements of professional competence required in clinical practice and serve as a foundation for the development and maintenance of professional expertise. Furthermore, this study carries academic and practical implications for music therapists’ performance of duties, the design of training curricula, and the establishment of future directions for professional development.

본 연구는 음악치료사들이 인식하는 음악치료사 역량에 관한 내용을 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 음악치료 자격증을 소지하고 현재 임상 현장에서 활동 중인 경력 6년 이상 22년 이하의 음악치료 사 8명을 연구 참여자로 선정하여 평균 50분간 심층 면담을 진행하였다. 수집된 자료는 합의적 질 적 연구 방법(Consensual Qualitative Research: CQR)에 따라 영역설정, 범주 도출, 합의 및 감수 의 절차를 거쳐 체계적으로 분석되었다. 분석 결과, 음악치료사들이 인식하는 음악치료사 역량은 ‘사례개념화’, ‘음악적 중재’, ‘비음악적 중재’, ‘전문성 향을 위한 치료사의 노력’ 등 총 4개의 범주 와 20개의 영역으로 도출되었다. 이는 음악치료사가 임상 장면에서 요구되는 역량의 구체적인 요소 를 확인하고 전문성을 발달 및 유지하는 데 중요한 근거를 제공한다. 나아가 본 연구는 음악치료사 의 직무 수행과 교육 과정, 향후 전문성 개발을 위한 실천적 방향 설정에 있어 학문적, 실천적 의의를 지닌다.
