This study aims to elucidate FFWPU(Family Federation for World Peace and Unification)’s view on the relationship between politics and religion. Politics and religion should cultivate the organic relationship, respecting each other’s positions. Each should strive to achieve the common goal of creating a “better society.” While FFWPU’s doctrine does contain the unity of church and state, its purpose lies in the need for politicians to understand the will of the Creator, Heavenly Parent. To achieve Heavenly Parent’s will, politics alone is not sufficient; religion must also be present. Without a certain level of altruism in each individual, social conflicts cannot be fundamentally resolved. The role of religion is to instill altruism. Therefore, FFWPU regards the ideal world based on the will of the Creator, Heavenly Parent, as a “better society” in the true sense, and hopes that not only religion but also politics will play a role as partners in achieving it.

본 연구는 정치와 종교의 관계에 대한 세계평화통일가정연합의 견해를 밝히는 데 목적을 둔다. 정치와 종교는 서로의 입장을 배려·존중하는 가운데 최대한 유기적인 관계를 형성해야 하며, ‘더 나은 사회’를 만든다는 공통된 목표를 이루기 위해 각각의 분야에서 힘써야 한다. 가정연합 교리 속에 정교일치처럼 보이는 견해가 존재하는 것은 사실이지만, 이는 정치인들이 창조주 하늘부모님의 뜻을 알아야 한다는 점에 그 의도가 있으며, 하늘부모님의 뜻을 이루려면 정치만 가지고는 안 되고 종교가 반드시 함께해야 한다는 의미가 내포되어 있다. 인간 개개인에 게 일정량의 이타적인 마음이 없이는 사회갈등을 근본적으로 해결할 수 없을 텐데, 이러한 마음을 심어주는 것이 종교의 역할이다. 가정연합은 창조주 하늘부모님의 뜻에 기반한 이상세 계를 참된 의미에서의 ‘더 나은 사회’로 여겨, 이를 이루기 위해 종교뿐만 아니라 정치가 그 동반자로서 역할을 다해주기를 바라고 있는 것이다.
