This study aims to develop and validate the ‘Self-Compassion Scale for Korean Older Adults.’ Based on 13 items from Self-Compassion Scale(Neff, 2003) and in-depth interviews with 29 older adults aged 65 and above, 90 preliminary items for self-compassion scale specific to Korean older adults were initially developed. Subsequently, through expert consultations, a preliminary scale consisting of 32 items across four factors was constructed. An exploratory factor analysis was conducted with a sample of 300 older adults, resulting in a 14-item scale with a four-factor structure: kindness to others, common humanity, self-kindness and mindfulness. Following this, a confirmatory factor analysis was performed on an additional sample of 300 older adults to verify the adequacy and reliability of the four-factor structure. The validity of this scale was confirmed through convergent and discriminant validity. Furthermore, criterion validity was verified through correlation analyses with self-esteem, self-acceptance, and post-event rumination, while incremental validity was confirmed by examining the distinctiveness from social desirability and four Immeasurables, using life satisfaction, anxiety, and depression as dependent variables. Finally, we discuss the practical applications of the scale and implications for future research.

본 연구는 한국 노인의 자기자비를 측정하기 위해 ‘한국 노인 자기자비 척도’를 개발하고 그 타당성 을 검증하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 Neff(2003)의 자기자비 척도 중 13개 문항과 65세 이상 노인 29명을 심층 인터뷰한 결과를 기반으로 하여 한국 노인 자기자비 척도의 예비문항 90개를 개발 하였다. 이후 전문가 자문 등을 통해 4요인 32문항의 예비척도를 구성하였다. 300명의 노인 표본을 대상으로 탐색적 요인분석을 실시하여 14문항, 4요인 구조(타인친절, 보편적 인간성, 자기친절, 마음 챙김)의 ‘한국 노인 자기자비 척도’를 개발하였다. 추가로 300명의 노인 표본으로 확인적 요인분석 을 실시하여 4요인 구조의 적절성과 신뢰도를 검증하였으며, 수렴 및 판별 타당도를 통해 이 척도 의 타당성을 확인하였다. 또한, 자존감, 자기수용, 사후반추와의 상관분석을 통해 공인타당도를 확인 하였고, 삶의 만족, 불안, 우울을 종속변인으로 하여 사회적 바람직성, 사무량심의 차별성을 검토하 여 증분타당도를 확인하였다. 마지막으로 본 척도의 활용 가능성과 후속 연구에 대한 시사점을 논의하였다.
