FBOs of the FFWPU began its outreach activities with social education, such as evening schools for literacy, and expanded to international activities, including UN-affiliated work and peace movements. It also engages in public services through medical activities and the operation of educational institutions. Based on the examples of U.S., FBOs are financially efficient due to lower salaries for paid staff and high utilization of volunteers. They also rely less on government funding than secular NGOs, depending more on donations from individuals and their religious communities. FBOs excel in providing basic services, such as homeless shelters and soup kitchens, and immediate, temporary disaster relief, while also contributing to long-term efforts like addiction treatment and chronic poverty resolution. The dedication and commitment of FBO members, rooted in religious teachings, lead to high volunteer participation and create a perception of greater trust and care among beneficiaries, enhancing social efficiency While FBO of the FFWPU achieved international results in a short period, its focus on international solidarity and its composition as a multicultural community resulted in difficulties in expanding social solidarity within its local communities. Thus, the study suggests that FBO of the FFWPU should shift focus from international expansion to local community movements, settling in their home areas and working with neighbors. It is advised to seek better changes in everyday rituals and lifestyles to realize the Ideals of Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity, and Universally Shared Values, thereby ensuring efficiency.

본 연구는 세계평화통일가정연합의 종교기반 비정부기구(FBO)의 사회공헌 활동 과 효율성을 다루고 있다. 가정연합 FBO는 아웃리치 활동의 일환으로 문맹 퇴치를 위한 야학등의 사회교육 활동에서 시작하여, UN과의 연대활동, 평화 운동 등 국제 적인 활동으로 확대해 왔으며, 의료 활동과 교육기관 운영을 통한 공적 활동도 함께 하고 있다. 미국의 FBO 사례를 중심으로 볼 때, FBO는 재정적 측면에서 낮은 유급 스태프 급여와 높은 자원봉사자 활용으로 인해 인건비 절감 효과가 있고, 일반 NGO에 비해 정부기금 의존도가 낮으며 개인 및 종교공동체의 기부에 더 많이 의존 하는 특징이 있다. 또한 FBO는 노숙자 쉼터, 무료 급식소 등 기초적인 서비스와 재 난 구호 활동 같은 즉각적이고 일시적인 구호 활동에 강점을 보이며, 장기적인 약물 중독 치료나 만성 빈곤 해결에도 기여한다. FBO 구성원들의 종교적 가르침에 기반 한 헌신과 몰입은 자원봉사 참여를 높이고 수혜자들에게 신뢰와 배려심이 크다는 인식을 주어 활동의 사회적 효율성을 높이는 요인이다. 가정연합 FBO는 짧은 기간 에 국제적인 성과를 냈으나, 국제적 연대를 중시하고 다문화 공동체로 구성된 특성 으로 인해 소속 지역사회와의 사회적 연대 확장에는 어려움을 겪었다. 이에 가정연 합 FBO가 기존의 국제적 확장 활동에서 벗어나 거주 지역사회의 정착과 이웃과 함 께하는 지역사회 운동에 관심을 갖고, 일상의 의식과 생활방식에 대한 더 나은 변화 를 추구하는 실천을 통해 공생·공영·공의의 가치를 실현하며 효율성을 갖추어야 한다고 제언한다.
