This study investigates the applicability of artificial intelligence (AI) in public funeral support services in response to the growing number of solitary and unclaimed deaths amid a rapidly aging society. After reviewing the institutional landscape of public funeral support and existing AI applications in social welfare services, a nationwide online survey was conducted to analyze public perception, acceptance, and policy needs. The findings reveal that over 85% of respondents hold a positive view of AI-based funeral services, with high demand for functions such as death recognition, procedural guidance, automated facility reservations, solitary death prevention systems, and post-mortem administrative processing. However, elderly respondents expressed concerns regarding emotional detachment and data privacy. Based on these insights, the study emphasizes the need for a public-led AI funeral service model centered on procedural guidance and institutional framework development, while also suggesting directions for future empirical research.

본 연구는 고령화 및 무연고 사망자 증가에 대응하기 위해, AI 기술을 활용한 장례지원 공공서비스의 적용 가능성 을 분석하고자 하였다. 공공장례지원의 제도적 현황과 AI 기술의 사회복지 분야 활용 사례를 고찰한 후, 온라인 설문조사 를 통해 국민의 인식과 수용 가능성, 정책적 수요를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, AI 기반 장례서비스에 대한 긍정적 인식이 85% 이상이었으며, 특히 사망자 인지 및 절차 안내, 장례시설 예약 자동화, 고독사 예방 시스템, 사후 행정절차 자동화서 비스 등에 대한 수요가 높았다. 한편, 고령층은 개인정보 보호와 정서적 거리감에 대한 우려가 두드러졌다. 본 연구는 공공 중심의 안내형 AI 장례서비스 설계와 제도적 기반 정비의 필요성을 제언하며, 향후 후속 실증연구의 방향성을 제시하였다.
