Based on a discussion of three topics, this work provides some materials for the study of Jaein (才人, Performer). First, therelationship between Pansori and Gyeonggi-sori. Many researchers view the songs in Gyewusa(a story about admonishing a friend) as Pansori. However, one can reasonably argue that those sung by the singers in this novel are not Pansori, but Gyeonggi-sori. Second, the author newly translated the part related to Jaein in the lower volume of the 朝鮮巫俗の硏究 (Research on Korean Shamanism) by Takashi Akiba (秋葉隆) and Jijo Akamatsu (赤松 智城). In particular, The error in the existing translation, which described that 40,000 Jaein exist in Gyeonggi Province, is highlighted. Third, this study analyzed demographic data of Suwon at the end of the 18th century. Through the July 20th article of the 13th year of King Jeongjo's reign in the Ilseongnok(Daily Records of the Royal Court and Important Officials), a total of five out of 244 units in the city center of Suwon were confirmed to be houses of Jaein. Furthermore, the Suwon population statistics in the Suwon-eupji(Records of Suwon) and the Hogu- Chongsu(Census of Households) were examined to investigate whether the proportion of Jaein in the city center of Suwon could be applied to the entire city. However, no such evidence was found. While reviewing the population data in the Hogu- Chongsu, Suwon-eupji, and the Ilseongnok, numerous statistical errors were discovered. These included significant discrepancies in population data compiled around the same time, and frequent errors in simple additions. These issues will require careful examination by specialized researchers in this field in the future.

이 논문은 재인(才人) 연구를 위한 자료 몇 가지를 제공하기 위해 작성한 것으 로, 필자는 이 글에서 세 가지를 얘기했다. 첫째는 판소리와 경기소리의 관계이다. 많은 연구자가 <계우사> 속의 광대를 나열하는 대목에 나오는 노래를 판소리라고 보고 있다. 그러나 이 작품에 등장하는 광대들이 부르는 노래는 남도소리가 아니 라 경기소리라고 보는 것이 합리적이다. 둘째는 아키바 다카시(秋葉隆)와 아카마 쓰 지조(赤松智城)가 공동으로 펴낸 朝鮮巫俗の硏究 하권에 실려 있는 재인 청 관련 부분의 새로운 번역이다. 특히 경기도의 재인이 4만 명이라는 번역은 잘 못임을 지적했다. 셋째는 18세기 말 수원시 인구 통계 자료의 분석이다. 필자는 <일성록>의 정조 13년 7월 20일 기사를 통해 수원 읍내의 244호 중 5호가 재인 의 집이라는 사실을 확인했다. 그리고 수원 읍내의 재인 비율을 수원 전체에 적용 할 수 있는지 알아보기 위해, <수원부읍지>와 <호구총수>의 수원 인구 통계 자료 를 확인하였다. 그러나 그럴만한 단서를 찾아내지는 못했다. 그런데 <호구총수>나 <수원부읍지> 그리고 <일성록>의 인구 자료를 검토하던 중, 여러 군데에서 통계의 오류를 발견했다. 거의 같은 시기에 작성된 인구 자료에서 상당한 차이가 나는 점 이라든가, 또는 간단한 덧셈에서 자주 오류가 발생하는 점 등이다. 이런 문제는 앞으로 이 분야 전문 연구자들이 잘 검토해야 할 것이다.
