This study examines the types and educational functions of visual texts in Korean language textbooks to inform their systematic integration into textbook development. Twelve volumes of SNU Korean⁺ (Levels 1A–6B) were analyzed, visual texts were reviewed from visual texts from cognitive, affective, and behavioral perspectives, with attention to learners’ proficiency levels and unit structures. The analysis showed that visual texts reduce cognitive load, stimulate interest, capture attention, and encourage active language use, complementing one another, to enhance comprehension and engagement. Three educational implications emerge. First, the types and complexity of visual texts should match learners’ proficiency levels. Second, their design should reflect specific domains and goals. Third, to foster communicative competence, visual texts should go beyond cognitive and affective dimensions to promote behavioral participation.

본 연구는 한국어 통합 교재에 수록된 시각 텍스트의 유형과 교육적 기능 을 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 교재 편찬 시 시각 텍스트 활용에 대한 시사 점을 제시하는 데 목적을 둔다. 분석 대상은 『서울대 한국어⁺』 1A부터 6B까지 총 12권이며 학습자의 숙달도와 단원 구성을 기준으로 시각 텍스 트를 인지적･행동적･정의적 측면에서 다면적으로 고찰하였다. 그 결과, 시각 텍스트는 학습자의 인지적 부하를 경감할 뿐 아니라 흥미를 유발하 고 주의를 환기시키며 언어 사용을 촉진하는 교육적 기능을 다층적으로 수행하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 교재 개발 시 고려 해야 할 요소를 다음과 같이 제언하고자 한다. 첫째, 학습자 숙달도에 따 라 시각 텍스트의 유형과 복잡성을 조절할 필요가 있다. 둘째, 학습 영역 의 특성과 교육 목표를 고려하여 시각 텍스트를 설계해야 한다. 셋째, 총 체적인 의사소통 역량 신장을 위해 시각 텍스트의 기능을 인지적･정의적 측면에 국한시키지 않고 행동적 참여로 확장할 필요가 있다.
