The present study explores college learners’ experience associated with generative artificial intelligence (gen- AI) tools such as Gemini and ChatGPT, focusing on their usage patterns, benefits they perceive, and relevant concerns. An online survey consisting of 13 undergraduate students in South Korea revealed diverse usage of AI tools in their academic pursuits, such as idea generation, research assistance, and writing facilitation. The student participants reported higher efficiency, creativity, and information access as main benefits of using gen- AI tools. On the other hand, they appeared to be worried of the inaccurate information that AI generates, potential cognitive recession, and declined academic integrity. For a more productive AI usage, the students emphasized the need for proper training for AI literacy, provision of clear guidelines, and faculty development for effective AI implementation in lecture halls, while reducing its inevitable risks. Further research in gen-AI tool integration in higher education needs to address means to facilitate student engagement, explore the longterm effect, and involve larger sample sizes.
