Korean orthography, as a rule system for writing the Korean language using Hangul, plays a vital role in everyday written communication. However, even advanced learners of Korean often struggle with its proper use. To effectively enhance Korean learners' competence in using Korean orthography, this study proposes a framework for constructing educational content grounded in the basic principles of Koran orthography, examining the basic principles of Korean orthography and the current state of orthographic instruction in Korean language education. Chapter 2 explores the basic principles of Korean orthography, with particular attention to Article 1 of the General Provisions in the Korean Orthography. This chapter confirms that Korean orthography is systematically constructed through a balance of morphological and phonemic principles, and analyzes how these principles manifest in specific regulations of the orthographic rules. Chapter 3 investigates how Korean orthography is addressed within Korean language education by examining the national-level Korean language education curricula. The investigation reveals a notable disparity: in Korean language education, instruction in Korean orthography is typically limited to letter formation within the writing domain at the beginner level, whereas the curriculum for native speakers span a broader and more comprehensive range of orthographic content across both writing and grammar domains throughout multiple grade levels. Building on the previous analysis, Chapter 4 establishes a direction for effectively teaching Korean orthography in Korean language education and proposes a structured, step-by-step framework for organizing educational content rooted in the basic principles of Korean orthography.

한글 맞춤법은 한국어를 한글로 표기하는 규범으로서 문자 생활에서 중요한 역할을 수행하지만, 한국어 학습자들은 고급 단계에 이르러서도 여전히 한글 맞춤법 사용에 어려움을 겪고 있다. 본 연구는 한국어 학습자들이 효율적으로 한글 맞춤법 사용 능력을 기를 수 있도록, 한글 맞춤법의 기본 원리와 한국어 교육에서의 한글 맞춤법 교육 현황을 고찰하고, 이를 기반으로 한글 맞춤법의 기본 원리에 기반을 둔 교육 내용 구성 방안을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 2장에서는 ‘한글 맞춤법’ 총칙 제1항을 중심으로 한글 맞춤법의 기본 원리를 고찰해 보았다. 한글 맞춤법은 형태적 원리와 음소적 원리가 조화를 이루며 체계적으로 구성되어 있음을 확인하고, 이러한 원리가 한글 맞춤법 조항에 어떻게 반영되는지를 분석하였다. 3장에서는 국가 수준의 한국어 교육과정을 검토하여, 한국어 교육에서 한글 맞춤법 교육 내용이 어떻게 설정되어 있는지를 살펴보았다. 한국어 교육에서는 초급 단계 쓰기 영역에서 글자 쓰기에 한정해서 한글 맞춤법을 다루는 데 비해, 국어과 교육과정은 쓰기와 문법 영역에서 여러 학년에 걸쳐 다양한 내용을 다룬다는 점에서 큰 차이를 보인다. 4장에서는 앞선 논의를 바탕으로, 한국어 교육에서 한글 맞춤법을 효과적으로 교육하기 위한 방향성을 설정하고, 한글 맞춤법의 기본 원리에 근거해서 단계적 교육 내용 구성 방안을 제안하였다.
