The study empirically investigates the impact of regional innovation capacity on the performance of regional economies, focusing on the moderating effect of industrial diversity. Using data from Korea’s Regional Science and Technology Industry Scoreboard(2012-2022), the study measures regional economic performance based on per capita GRDP and employment rate. Key independent variables include knowledge creation and diffusion, networking, and regional policies. Industrial diversity is operationalized using the related variety Index (RV) and the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI). Hierarchical regression analysis confirms that regional policy positively affects both economic activity and employment outcomes. Knowledge creation and networking exert significant influence only on the economic activity dimension. The moderating effect of industrial diversity differs by outcome variable: it negatively moderates the relationship between knowledge creation and GRDP, but positively moderates the relationship with employment rate. These findings highlight the nuanced role of industrial diversity in shaping regional innovation outcomes, challenging the notion of its uniformly positive impact. The study provides empirical insights for differentiated, region-specific policies and strategies.

본 연구는 지역혁신 역량이 지역경제성과에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하고, 이 관계에 산업 다양성이 조절효과를 갖는지를 규명하고 자 하였다. 분석에는 2012년부터 2022년까지의 지역과학기술산업스코어보드 데이터를 활용하였으며, 경제성과를 1인당 GRDP(경제활 동), 고용률(노동시장)로 구분하였다. 독립변수는 지식 창출 및 확산, 네트워킹, 지역정책으로 구성하였고, 조절변수인 산업 다양성은 RV 지수 및 허핀달-허쉬만 지수를 활용하여 측정하였다. 분석결과, 지역정책은 두 지표 모두에 긍정적인 효과를 미쳤으며, 지식 창출 및 확산과 네트워킹은 경제활동 측면에만 유의한 영향을 보였다. 산업 다양성은 지식 창출 및 확산의 효과를 조절하였으며, 특히 고용률에는 정(+)의, GRDP에서는 부(-)의 방향으로 작용하는 상반된 결과를 나타냈다. 이는 산업구조의 다양성이 혁신 효과에 있어 일률적으로 작용하지 않음을 시사한다. 본 연구는 지역혁신체계와 산업 다양성 간의 상호작용을 통합적으로 다루어, 지역 맞춤형 정책 및 전략 수립의 실증적 근거를 제시한 데 의의가 있다.
