This study explores the meaning of pilgrimage experiences by understanding them not as mere religious journeys but as spiritual practices that confirm the roots of faith and “lived” the spaces of the Bible. Using Max van Manen’s hermeneutic phenomenology as its theoretical framework, the study analyzes the pilgrimage experiences of Olive Tree Church, which was selected as the case church in connection with the 2025 Bible Education Pastoral Seminar through Holy Land Spiritual Training commemorating the 100th anniversary of Jochiwon Church. The purpose of this study is to determine whether pilgrimage actually contributes to the formation of spirituality and educational practices within the church community. To this end, we will examine the Olive Tree Church's pilgrimage experience through the existential categories of spatiality, temporality, relationality, corporeality, materiality, and technology as discussed in Manen's hermeneutic phenomenology. The case study for this research was conducted through interviews with the senior pastor and assistant pastor of Olive Tree Church regarding their experiences of pilgrimage and its impact on the church. Reflecting on the Olive Tree Church's pilgrimage experience in terms of Manen's existential categories, the pilgrimage was experienced as a sacred place that imprinted vocation and identity in the dimension of spatiality, and as an event in the dimension of temporality that intersected the past, present, and future in a redemptive-historical context. In terms of relationality, the pilgrimage experience fostered deeper intimacy between pastors and parishioners, among parishioners, and in the shared relationship of pastors and parishioners with God. In terms of corporeality, it led participants to internalize biblical narratives by embodying the local context of the visited sites through their bodies. In terms of materiality and technology, the pilgrimage experience prompted reflection on the spiritual interpretation of material objects and the instrumental functions of modern technology in the formation of spirituality. Through this analysis, it can be seen that the pilgrimage experience of Olive Tree Church, while upholding the educational perspective of to encounter, to reflect, and to embody, functioned as a factor that strengthened both spirituality and practice for the individuals and the church community who participated in the pilgrimage. This case demonstrates that pilgrimage can serve as an experiential educational setting that goes beyond a simple visit to a holy site, promoting both the formation of personal spirituality and the pastoral practice of the church. In conclusion, this study suggests that pilgrimage can serve as a practical strategy for church revival and discipleship, and further proposes its educational potential in the formation of the spirituality of individuals and communities while strengthening their practical commitment.

이 연구는 기독교 역사 속에서 계속되고 있는 성지순례(pilgrimage)를 단순한 종교적 여행(religious journey)이 아닌, 신앙의 뿌리를 확인하고, 성경의 공간(space)을 ‘살아 낸’(lived) 영적 실천(spiritual practice)으로 이해하면서, 성지순례 경험의 의미를 탐색 하기 위해 막스 반 마넨(Max van Manen)의 해석학적 현상학을 이론적 틀로 삼아, 2025년 조치원교회 창립 100주년기념 성지 영성훈련을 통한 성경교육 목회세미나 사 례 교회로 선정된 올리브나무교회의 성지순례 경험을 사례로 분석하였다. 이 연구의 목적은 성지순례가 교회 공동체의 영성 형성과 교육적 실천에 실제로 기여하는지를 규명하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 마넨의 해석학적 현상학에서 다루어지는 실존적 범주인 공간성(spatiality), 시간성(temporality), 관계성(relationality), 신체성(corporeality), 물 질성(materiality), 기술성(technology)을 중심으로 올리브나무교회 성지순례를 살펴볼 것이다. 이 연구를 위한 사례 연구는 올리브나무교회의 성지순례 경험과 그로 인한 교회의 영향에 관하여 담임목사와 부목사의 인터뷰를 통해 수행되었다. 마넨의 실존 의 범주에 따라 성찰해 본 올리브나무교회의 성지순례 경험은 공간성 차원에서 성지 는 소명과 정체성을 각인시키는 거룩한 장소로 경험되었고, 시간성 차원에서는 과거· 현재·미래가 교차하는 구속사적 맥락에서의 사건이었다. 관계성 차원에서 성지순례 경험은 목회자와 교인, 교인 간, 그리고 목회자와 교인의 하나님과 더 깊은 친밀성을 형성하게 했으며, 신체성 차원에서는 방문한 현지의 맥락을 몸으로 체화함으로써 성 경의 이야기를 내면화하도록 이끌었었다. 그리고 물질성과 기술성 차원에서 성지순례 경험은 영성 형성을 위한 물질의 신앙적 해석 및 현대 기술의 수단적 기능을 성찰하 게 했다. 이러한 분석을 통해 올리브나무교회 성지순례 경험은 조우하기(to encounter), 성찰하기(to reflect), 살아내기(to embody)라는 교육적 안목을 견지하면서 성지순례에 참여했던 개인과 교회 공동체 모두에게 영성과 실천을 강화하는 요인으로 기능했음을 알 수 있었다. 이 사례는 성지순례가 단순한 성지 방문을 넘어, 개인의 영성 형성과 교회의 목회적 실천을 촉진하는 체험 기반 교육의 장이 될 수 있음을 보여준다. 결론 적으로 이 연구는 성지순례가 교회의 부흥과 제자 양육의 실제적 전략이 될 수 있으며, 나아가 개인과 공동체의 영성을 형성하고 실천을 강화하는 교육적 가능성을 제안한다.
