This study aimed to apply an integrated educational model that combines Problem-Based Learning (PBL) with generative artificial intelligence (AI) to dental hygiene students, in order to examine learning satisfaction, learning engagement. The goal was to provide baseline data for effective applications of generative AI in dental hygiene education.The study was conducted over a six-week period in 2025 with 47 third-year students enrolled in the Department of Dental Hygiene at D University in Busan, South Korea. Learning satisfaction and engagement were assessed through surveys, comparing students who applied generative AI in PBL activities with those who did not. Students with prior experience using generative AI reported a mean satisfaction score of 2.74, while those without prior experience reported a slightly higher score of 2.88. Correlation analysis revealed that both satisfaction with PBL and satisfaction with generative AI-enhanced learning were significantly associated with students’ learning engagement.The findings suggest that actively integrating generative AI into dental hygiene education may contribute to fostering problem-solving skills, thereby supporting the development of dental hygienists who are capable of effectively responding to complex and unpredictable clinical situations.

본 연구는 치위생학과 학생들을 대상으로 문제중심학습과 생성형 AI를 통합적으로 활용한 교육 모델을 적용하여 학습자의 만족도, 학습참여 효과를 탐색하고, 이를 통해 치위생 교육에서의 효과적인 생성형 AI 활용 방안에 대한 기초자료를 제공하고자 시행하였다. 2025년 6주동안 부산광역시 소재 D대학 치위생학과에 재학중인 3학년 학생 47명을 대상으로 시행하였으며 문제중심학습에서 생성형 AI 사용 유무에 따라 수업만족도와 학습 참여도를 설문을 통해 조사 하였다. 생성형 AI를 사용해 본 경험이 있는 경우 수업만족도는 2.74점 경험이 없는 경우 2.88점으로 사용경험이 없을 때 수업만족도가 조금 높았으며, pbl수업만족도, 생성형 AI 활용한 수업만족도, 학습참여도 간 상관관계를 살펴보면 PBL 수업과 생성형 AI 활용 수업 모두 학습자의 학습참여도와 유의미한 관련이 있다. 생성형 AI의 활용 역량을 치위생 교육에 적극적으로 도입하여, 복잡하면서 돌발적인 상황에 대처할 수 있는 문제해결능력을 갖춘 치과위생사 양성에 도움이 되길 기대한다.
