This study conducts a quantitative and qualitative analysis of articles related to the Korean Peninsula published between 1990 to 1999, employing digital humanities methodologies. The analysis combines topic modeling using BERTopic and KMeans with keyword analysis based on SudachiPy to track thematic shifts by topic and by year, and to extract representative articles for an in–depth examination of each topic. The quantitative findings indicate that, in the 1990s, Sekai's discourse on the Korean Peninsula shifted from a focus on historical issues toward themes of economy, diplomacy, and the international order, reflecting the broader geopolitical realignments in East Asia during the post–Cold War era. Keyword analysis revealed that “economy” ranked highest in frequency, followed by “world,” “society,” “North–South,” and “politics.” As the democratic government came into power, democracy–related keywords emblematic of the 1980s—such as “democratization,” “students,” and “people”—either disappeared or diminished in prominence. Meanwhile, diplomacy–related keywords such as “unification,” “diplomacy,” “negotiation,” and “cooperation,” as well as optimistic terms such as “possibility,” “peace,” “freedom,” and “cooperation,” occupied the upper ranks, reflecting both expectations for unification and peace after democratization as well as a critical reflection on Japan's colonial rule. Qualitative analysis based on representative articles showed that Topic 0 centered on historical issues, war responsibility, and the restoration of international relations; Topic 1 concretized visions of a North– South reconciliation and unification through economic engagement; Topic 2 linked historical issues —including the “comfort women” issue—with reparations as well as international relations; Topic 3 addressed grassroots exchanges, North Korea–Japan relations, and economic democratization; finally Topic 4 highlighted the legal validity of the Japan–Korea Annexation and its connection to the 1965 Japan–Korea Treaty. Taken together, these findings demonstrate that Sekai not only examined the Korean Peninsula in the 1990s from the perspectives of both North and South Korea, but also intertwined historical issues with contemporary international affairs in a complex narrative. This study offers a foundation for a comprehensive understanding of Japan's perceptions of the Korean Peninsula during the globally transformative decade of the 1990s, and, by integrating digital humanities–based quantitative analysis with qualitative interpretation, elucidates how Japanese discourse on the Korean Peninsula interacted with the post–Cold War East Asian international order.

본 연구는 일본의 종합지 『세카이(世界)』에 게재된 1990~1999년 한반도 관련 기사를 대상으로, 디지털 인문학 방법론을 통한 정량･정성 분석을 수행하였다. 분석 방법으로는 BERTopic과 KMeans를 활용한 토픽 모델링과 SudachiPy 기반 키워드 분석을 적용했으며, 이를 통해 토픽별･ 연도별 주제 변화를 추적하고 대표 기사를 추출해 토픽별 내용을 심층 검토하였다. 정량분석 결과, 1990년대 『세카이』의 한반도 담론은 탈냉전기 동아시아의 국제정세와 맞물려 역사 중심에서 경제･외교･국제질서로 담론이 이동하는 경향을 보였다. 키워드 분석에서는 ‘경제’ 가 가장 높은 빈도를 차지했으며, ‘세계･사회･남북･정치’ 등이 뒤를 이었다. 또한 민주정권이 출범하며 1980년대를 대표했던 ‘민주화･학생･민중’ 등 민주화 관련 키워드가 퇴장하거나 약화되 었다. 이밖에도 ‘통일･외교･교섭･협력’와 같은 외교 관련 키워드, ‘가능성･평화･자유･협력’과 같 은 낙관적 전망이 상위를 차지하며 민주화 이후 통일･평화 실현에 대한 기대와 일본의 식민지배 성찰이 담론에 반영된 것을 확인하였다. 대표기사를 토대로 한 정성분석의 경우 토픽0에서는 역사문제와 전쟁책임, 국제관계 회복 논의가, 토픽1에서 경제를 매개로 한 남북 화해와 통일 구상이 구체화되었다. 토픽2에서 위안부 문제를 비롯한 역사･배상･국제관계의 연계가, 토픽3에서 민간 교류와 북일관계, 경제 민주화가, 토픽4에서 한국강제병합의 법적 효력과 한일조약이 부각되었다. 이러한 분석에서 『세카이』가 1990년대 한반도를 남북 모두의 관점에서 조명하는 것은 물론 역사문제와 동시대 국제정세를 복합적인 관점에서 교차･서술했음을 파악할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 세계사적 전환기인 1990년대 일본의 한반도 인식을 전체적으로 파악할 수 있는 기초 자료를 제공하였다. 나아가 디지털 인문학적 분석과 심층 분석을 결합해 일본 내 한반도 담론이 탈냉전기 동아시아 국제질서와의 상호작용 방식을 총체적으로 규명하였다.
