This study systematically analyzes various types and discourse functions of ellipsis expressions in Korean discourse to identify the unique linguistic characteristics of the Korean language. Korean, reflecting high-context cultural characteristics, allows meaning transmission even when major sentence components are omitted. These ellipsis phenomena are not merely grammatical deletions but sophisticated communication strategies involving complex interactions between speakers' and listeners' mutual understanding and sociocultural backgrounds. The research findings reveal that Korean ellipsis expressions can be classified into five major types: subject ellipsis, object ellipsis, predicate ellipsis, adjunct ellipsis, and situational ellipsis. Each type serves functions such as pursuing discourse economy, emphasizing information, adjusting psychological distance, and expressing politeness. Subject ellipsis shows the highest frequency at 67.82%-68.79%, empirically supporting that Korean is a context-dependent language. The manifestation patterns of ellipsis expressions are determined by the interaction between intra-linguistic and extra-linguistic factors, closely related to Korea's sociocultural contexts including values of humility and consideration derived from Confucian traditions, collectivistic culture, and face-saving culture. Therefore, research on ellipsis expressions requires an integrated approach that comprehensively considers real-life discourse contexts and cultural implications beyond grammar-centered approaches.

본 연구는 한국어 담화에서 나타나는 생략 표현의 다양한 유형과 담화적 기능을 체계적으로 분석하여 한국어의 고유한 언어학적 특성을 규명 하고자 하였다. 한국어는 고맥락 문화의 특성을 반영하여 문장의 주요 성분이 생략되어도 의미 전달이 가능한 언어로, 이러한 생략 현상은 단순 한 문법적 요소의 삭제가 아닌 화자와 청자 간의 상호 이해와 사회문화적 배경이 복합적으로 작용하는 고차원적 의사소통 전략이다. 연구 결과, 한국어 생략 표현은 주어 생략, 목적어 생략, 서술어 생략, 부속성분 생략, 상황적 생략의 다섯 가지 주요 유형으로 분류되며, 각각 담화의 경제성 추구, 정보 강조, 심리적 거리 조절, 정중도 표현 등의 기능 을 수행한다. 특히 주어 생략이 67.82%-68.79%로 가장 높은 빈도를 보 이며, 이는 한국어가 맥락 의존적 언어임을 실증적으로 뒷받침한다. 생략 표현의 구현 양상은 언어 내적 요소와 언어 외적 요소가 상호작용 하여 결정되며, 유교적 전통에서 비롯된 겸손과 배려의 가치, 집단주의적 문화, 체면 중시 문화 등 한국의 사회문화적 맥락과 밀접하게 연관되어 있다. 따라서 생략 표현 연구는 문법 중심의 접근을 넘어서 실생활 담화 맥락과 문화적 함의를 종합적으로 고려하는 융합적 접근이 필요하다.
