This study was conducted to comprehensively examine the impact of reconfiguration capabilities possessed by foreign expanding SMEs on innovation activities and international performance. Specifically, it aimed to empirically test the role of opportunity creation process factors in the relationship between these two factors. To achieve the above research objectives, six research hypotheses were developed based on dynamic capabilities theory and opportunity creation theory. An empirical analysis was conducted based on the results of a survey of 108 foreign expanding SMEs. The empirical analysis confirmed that all hypotheses, except those regarding reconfiguration capabilities and innovation, were supported. To further examine the mediating effects among factors included in the research model, an Aroian test was performed. The results confirmed that, in addition to the research hypotheses, there was a significant mediating effect among the factors included in the research model. The implications that can be drawn from this study are as follows. First, it was confirmed that the reconfiguration capabilities possessed by foreign expanding SMEs are factors that positively influence innovation activities and international performance. Second, it was confirmed that reconfiguration capabilities are factors that also promote the opportunity creation process. Third, it was confirmed that while reconfiguration capabilities do not directly influence innovation, the opportunity creation process serves as an important factor connecting the relationship between them.

본 연구는 해외진출 중소벤처기업이 보유한 재구성 역량이 혁신 활동과 해외진출성과에 미치는 영향을 전반적으로 살펴보고자 수행되었 으며, 특히 이들 간의 관계에서 기회창출 과정 요인이 어떠한 역할을 수행하는지를 실증적으로 검증해 보고자 하였다. 이상과 같은 연구목적을 달성하기 위하여 동적역량 이론 및 기회창출 이론을 바탕으로 6개의 연구가설을 수립하였고, 108개 해외진출 중소벤처기업을 대상으로 수집 된 설문조사 결과를 바탕으로 연구가설에 대한 실증분석을 수행하였다. 실증분석 결과, 제시된 가설들 중 재구성 역량과 혁신에 관한 가설을 제외한 나머지 가설들이 모두 지지되는 것으로 확인되었으며, 제시된 연구가설 이외에 추가적으로 연구모형에 포함된 요인들 간에 매개효과가 있는지를 검증하기 위하여 아로이안 테스트(Aroian test)를 수행한 결과, 연구가설 이외에 연구모형에 포함된 요인들 간에 전반적으로 유의미한 매개효과가 있음을 확인하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 제시할 수 있는 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 해외진출 중소벤처기업이 보유한 재구성 역량은 혁신 활동과 해외진출성과 에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 요인임을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 재구성 역량은 기회창출 과정도 촉진시키는 요인임을 확인하였다는 점이다. 셋 째, 재구성 역량은 혁신에 직접적인 영향을 미치지는 않으나, 기회창출 과정이 이들 간의 관계를 연결시켜 주는 중요요인임을 확인하였다는 점이다.
