The objective of this study is to analyze the mediating effect of the acceptance of mental illness perceived by the family in the relationship between family health and depression among families of people with mental illness. To this end, the data from the 5th (2022) Korean Disabled Persons Development Institute's Life of the Disabled Panel Survey was used, and the data of 275 families of people with mental illness were analyzed. The study's findings indicate that family health exerts a substantial influence on depression among families of individuals with mental illness. Furthermore, the study suggests that acceptance of mental disabilities partially mediates the relationship between family health and depression, indicating that enhancing family health leads to a more positive attitude towards acceptance of mental disabilities, which in turn contributes to a reduction in depression levels among family members. Specifically, the study found that acceptance of disabilities plays a crucial role in fostering emotional stability and psychological resilience among family members. These findings have significant practical implications for the development of effective depression prevention strategies in families of people with mental disabilities.

본 연구는 정신장애인 가족을 대상으로 가족 건강성과 우울 간의 관계에서 가족이 인지하는 정신장애인 장애수용의 매개효과를 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 한국장애인개발원의 장애인 삶 패널조사 5차(2022년) 데이터를 활용하였으며, 정신장애인 가족 275명의 자료를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 가족 건강성은 정신장애인 가족의 우울에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 정신장애인의 장애수용은 가족 건강성과 우울 간의 관계에서 부분 매개 효과를 보였다. 이는 가족 건강성이 높아질수록 정신장애인 장애 수용 태도가 강화되고, 이러한 태도가 가족 구성원의 우울 수준을 감소시키는 데 중요한 역할을 한다는 점을 시사한다. 특히 장애수용은 가족 구성원의 정서적 안정과 심리적 회복력을 증진시키 는 중요한 매개 변인으로 작용한다. 본 연구 결과를 근거로 정신장애인 가족의 효과적인 우울 예방을 위한 정신건강서비스 실천적 방안을 제시하였다.
