During a period of rapid Japanese population growth in colonial Korea, the Keijōdaiichi High School for Girls was established in response to the demands of the Japanese community and colonial authorities. Modeled after schools in Japan and positioning itself as a “safe space” for cultivating imperial femininity, it sought to provide an educational environment that insulated Japanese girls from local colonial influences. As the oldest and most prestigious girls' school in colonial Korea, it played a central role in producing elite women for the empire. One key factor in its prominence was the alumni association Hakuyōkai, which published the Hakuyōkaishii gazette. Framing it as a successful outpost of imperial education, a 1930s issue reveals the principal's satisfaction with the school's expansion and stability. Simultaneously, the school emphasized discipline and the cultivation of imperial identity among its students. The physical and cultural separation from Japan fostered a strong sense of unity within the alumni network. Through Hakuyōkaishii, stories of alumni who migrated across imperial territories and built “sweet homes” with their families illustrated how the school and its network functioned as a conduit for expanding imperial consciousness and solidarity.
